What ever happened to Laser Interceptor and Blinder? And how effective are they these days?

It looks like Blinder may be making a comeback which got me thinking... what ever happened to the two big dogs in the jammer world? When I first got into detectors, Laser Interceptor was the recommended jammer on the forums, displacing Blinder. I disappeared for a few years and when I came back ALP was the only choice, and has held its top position basically since. Did Blinder/LI just stop updating their products? What exactly happened? And how effective are they anymore if i were to pick up a used set on eBay or something?

my V1 is now a desktop ornament
ECCM/VPR was a whole new ball game.

I believe LI had merged (not right term) with Stinger?

Blinder was run by Leon Gruner and Bonnie. Leon passed away in 2016 and I'm sure that has thrown a wrench in the gears.

The HP905 seems to still compete today with the exclusion of DE.

Negative
Cliff became the USA distributor for Stinger for some time, but LI and Stinger did not merge.

LI Gen8 and Blinder HP905 both still work well for the guns they jam, but they are not being updated and don't jam most VPR guns afaik.

What exactly happened?

Your answer can be found in this post here, which I'm quoting in full:

Re: Sending Prayer's to Leon Gruner's Leon Gruner (BlinderDude) Family

To all of you on the Forum I say thank you for all the prayers! Leon J Gruner Passed away November 9 2016. He had Diabetes and over 70% of his arteries were clogged. Never went to the dr. He was 54 yrs. old. He live and breathed Blinder for almost 16 years this coming march 2017. Working together with him was an honor he taught me a lot and through the years I've grown to love the business myself. With Blinder Denmark's help I will continue to run the company with the integrity we have always had. We are coming out with a new system in February I will make sure I post I'm new to this forum stuff but I will do my best. Again Thank you for your support and hope it will continue.
I think that it just took some extra time for Blinder to be ready to come back to market after the unexpected passing of BlinderDude, @BonnieG's husband. Now that they're here and back, we'll have to wait to see what things Bonnie shares with us as she and her company are ready.

LI has a more complicated story, but ultimately cliff became the USA dealer for Stinger... if you dig back on here you will find little bits of the story. Blinder lost one of the owners owner due to health reasons and with the advent of DE both companies were strugglin to keep up. both stalker and DE were releasing new firmwares frequenctly and jammer companies had to work hard to keep up... once DE went non pattern based VPR it became hard for the exsisting systems to keep up, would require new hardware and firmware, also the harder guns like XLR would require more heads on larger SUV's and such which were popular in that time as well blinder and LI arelimited to 4 heads per CPU, so if you needed front and rear coverage on a larger car you might need to get two CPU's and then three heads per CPU which is not super cost efficient. ALP became the big player at that point as they were consistently handling the DE threats and the upgrades to hardware were minimal and handled well. Now as far as what the systems do today, the answer isn't 100% clear... but against the bulk of the non DE based guns they work just fine.

I have some LI's still along with my ALP's and have tested it with a current XLR and it was solid, tested some 905's against a current XLR and RLR and they were solid as well both LI and blinder did fine with laser ally, TSS and prolite in my testing. Now does that mean every stalker XLR is covered? not necessarily, but the bulk should be. otherwise most other non VPR guns haven't changed and still jam fine. the main thing they can't do is dragoneye which for many people isn't a huge concern as they are not common in many states... The thing most enthusiasts considered was buying a ALP system that is up to date and can jam everything, or spending almost the same amount to get a LI/blinder system that jams basically everything but isn't likely going to get more updates going forward... you never know when you might get DE moving into your area, and you wont always know until you get ticketed with one. That said if you dont live in a DE heavy area and have an older system there isn't a huge need to rush out and upgrade unless you are concerned about the off chance of DE showing up or if you have a larger vehicle that needs more heads than blinder and LI currently support.

Ok, things are starting to make sense! That's too bad about Leon, but I'm glad Bonnie is getting back in the game. It's crazy how many products in this market are so tied to a single instrumental person.

I vaguely remember something about the Escort jammers just being rebranded Laser Interceptors. Am I imagining this? Wouldn't really make much sense because Escorts can jam VPR guns but LI can't, right?

I'd recommend creating a new thread in the Laser Interceptor forum so that you can organize the conversation and replies of those who may help you out.
