So the other day I was browsing through a (dated) website called speedtrap.org and decided to look up my frequent drives in my area. Looking back at some of the reported traps and the descriptions of the traps things have clearly changed around my current area in the last 10 years.

I saw several posts for different areas talking about large scale traps with a shooter and up to 12 chase cars comprised of fhp and locals. To date I have not seen any locals doing speed enforcement on the interstates here, but clearly they used to a lot. Overall it just sounds like the highways and larger roads used to be much more patrolled 10 years ago with a lot more traps, today it's the occasional 1-2 FHP with radar or maybe laser, most of the time not well hidden and pretty predictable, it sounds like it used to be a much more exciting cm playground.

Of course a lot had changed in the last 10 years, cars have improved and speed limits have increased some so perhaps the overall flow is a little faster meaning less people sticking out of the flow... Of course Waze, improved RD's laser jammers, escort live and aircraft tracking stuff have all come about... Perhaps those larger scale traps are less effective now? I know on the local roads the amount of traffic and lights have gone way up so maybe that has reduced the speeding some too.

So how has the speed enforcement in your area changed over the years?

12 case cars? That is ridiculous. Are they still able to respond to calls for service within a reasonable time? If not, i would write a letter to the editor that they aren’t taking their calls because they are too busy raising revenue. And if they are, I‘d write a letter asking why they are using your tax dollars for that foolishness and ask if they need that many officers.

A typical aircraft vascar trap has 8-12 chase cars cause you dont want the plane circling for any length of time waiting for there to be an available chase car to go after someone... but yes even with the overpass laser traps they often have at lest 6 cars waiting... but I don't see that tactic any more, the stories soundlike it used to be pretty common so its interesting that it changed.

What your seeing is true.

As of the great recession (2007-2008) most police agencies determined issuing tickets/citations wasn't a high priority as people's means of living were stressed during this timeframe. Even here in my area agencies issuing citations had decreased quite a bit, and other "entities" that relied on this revenue stream were financially impacted. Don't ask me how I know.

I've actually talked to a local agency CFO, and he stated it costs them money to even issue a citation based on salary and pension costs for LEOs. That being said as of this year there has been an increase into the number of citations issued, but nothing like you would have seen prior to the great recession.

The local changes have the 2 small towns nearby consolidating the police departments with the expected growth in the dept. More manpower and more revenue generating operations. The equipment changes include K band and I/O .

County changes involve K band being deployed by the sheriff's dept. and Vascar moving into our area of I94. On the flip side county laser use seems to have almost disappeared....

Mostly unmarked suv’s as of late, hard as hell to make out you really have to be looking for antennas and have a rabbit at all times on the x way. About half the time they are running c/o so that helps sometimes. There’s a nice mustang here hard to spot but he always runs c/o (thank you).

Laser enforcement has come here slowly - have only seen it about 4x in 2 years. LTIs from what I can tell.

That's kinda sad actually. I love laser, at least I can do something about it. I intentionally drove through a laser trap this AM just because..
