I observed a strange issue the other day while running my Uniden BCD436HP. I noticed after a while of it sitting at my desk that it had become abnormally quiet. When I went to grab the scanner, it almost immediately caught traffic. I started keeping my eye on it, and I noticed a pattern. It would scan until it hit a particular Site named Goshen Peak, then it would get stuck. It would remain stuck indefinitely until I touched the scanner. I was able to repeat this behavior many times, and decided to capture it on video. It's almost 5 minutes long, and not that exciting, but I wanted to show the behavior as it happened. I checked my antenna and it was screwed in firmly, not being loose at all. You'll see me holding my camera near the screen to try and help you see the screen output, and then grab it on occasion to make physical contact and try to get it unstuck from the Goshen Peak site. Don't be freaked out by the awkward way I'm holding it. I had some stitches in, so I was grabbing the detector kind of awkwardly due to this, trying to avoid the wounds in my hand and fingers.

Video: ~5mins, 729 MB

Did you accidentally hit your hold button? Did you program anything in your scanner to make it stop there?

@GTO_04 might have some extra ideas.

I can confirm that no Hold was activated on System, Site, or Channel.

Not that I know of. Are there a few things I should be looking for in the configuration, specifically?

What type of system is it? Can you link to the radio reference entry?

Mixed analog/digital rebanded SmartZone systems sometimes give the Uniden scanners issues. Can you confirm you only have the control channel frequency for that site programmed into the scanner?

Can you take a picture of the scanner screen while it is stuck on the Godiva site? I can't see it clearly in the video.

Edit: I was going to suggest you post on RR, but I see you've already done that. A clear picture of the screen while it is stuck on the Godiva site will certainly help diagnose though.

A photo I had taken last week when the issue was manifest.

Check your squelch control too. Too high or too low can cause problems. I don't own a 436 but in some ways it is similar to my 396XT and 996XT.

Edit: Someone already mentioned the squelch setting. It says ID Scanning so it isn't in hold mode. What are you using for an antenna? If you are using the stock antenna, try the Remtronix 800 SMA version. It is much better than the stock antenna.

I don’t know what’s going on, but I don’t think it’s normal stuff since it doesn’t appear to be receiving anything. If you ignore that site, does anything change, or does it just find another site to get stuck on after a while?

Even on air band? I don’t think the problem is his antenna.

No, it applies mainly to 800 MHz. It could be having trouble finding the control channel due to a weak signal, or simulcast distortion.

Also move your scanner to another part of your desk.... I can have mine close to my comp desktop and it's silent as a mouse (but scanning nonetheless). Move it 6" in another direction and it lights right up.

Mine does this sometimes but it's rare. I have no idea what causes it either. I just power cycle it and normally it works again after that. I don't recall picking it up or otherwise moving my scanner having any affect though.

I use mine every day and it only happens to me every 2 months or so.... That I notice anyway.
