87gn put CS on my v1. Since running into that 34.4 several times here in town with my redline, I'm afraid my v1 that I'm using now is missing the alert. I called him but havent heard back, so I'm asking here. He said he used viel guys commendations. I've tried to find those but no luck. Is there a way to check without using the app since I dont have a Bt or toggle?

Unfortunately, no. Reading these settings would require the BlueTooth dongle to be attached, as they are not exposed in settings configurable via the detector's click dial.

P.S. If he used "veil guy's settings", here is a link I found where he mentions his recommended sweep settings, so this page may contain one of the few possibly used sweep configurations that yours is configured to run - based on what you've mentioned above. Which of the few ones he mentions? I don't know.

Anyone near you with a dongle?
Was that a confirmed cop using 34.4? I've never seen anything that low from Stalkers.

I’d highly recommend the BT dongle. With JBV1, it’s the equivalent of a new V1.
Anyone who has a V1, must get the Bluetooth dongle! That and JBV1 app, custom sweeps, gps, learning mode. This is how a radar detecter is suppose to work. If you only have the V1 out of the box - - you are horribly missing out.

I drive in Dallas / Fort Worth, 70 miles one way to work. I'm in the truck at least 2hrs+ daily...I'm at 80mph at least. For over six years now, ZERO tickets. Why... It has to do with situational awareness, the V1, and JBV1.

I don’t have a V1 but I had heard you can customize it using the dongle and then unplug, and the settings are saved internally if you don’t want to use a phone. So your post confirms this.

Another consideration is just to use the default sweeps from the factory.

Then turn off Ka Guard (Feature # 6)and you'll be all set. Unless you have a ton of Cobra users in your area you shouldn't get a ton of Ka falsing.

I'll be in Wellington this coming Thursday and Friday. I'll bring my dongle and fix your sweeps to cover out of tune 34.7 guns! I didn't use Veil Guys sweeps. I set you up with a basic 34.578-34.833

Imho, you are taking a HUGE risk running sweeps with less than +/- 200 minimum. I travel quite a bit and see some guns pretty far off. After a few close calls running custom sweeps, I've actually gone back to running the stock sweeps, and just turning off X and Ka Guard.

correct me if i'm wrong but most of the "out of tune" guns are the stalkers? if a person goes one sweep higher and lower, shouldnt that take care of it

I have no means to tell exactly what unit(s) are out of tune, or whether this is purposeful by the LEO. But I've seen enough 'out of tune' frequencies captured and logged by JBV1 that I verified were LEO, to rethink my tight sweep strategy. Imho, Mike went with rather wide +/- 400 for a reason, and the amount of extra range you might get in ideal situations is not worth the risk of not getting an alert. I found with Ka Guard off, with full OEM sweeps, I get all the range I need to ensure 100% protection. I'm not trying to convince anyone to change what works for them, but after a couple of close calls, I'm not messing with narrow sweeps anymore.

Yeah it does seem to be mostly Stalkers that transmit outside the +/- 100 MHz range. For that reason, I'm seriously starting to think that 2/4/5/6/8 should be the new normal recommended CS range. Newer detectors aren't really impacted much (if any) by enabling the two extra segments. Older detectors like the M3 and V1's will be affected a little bit, but not a massive amount and IMHO it's worth the risk. I do notice more Ka falses with the V1 when doing wider sweeps around Ka, moreso than with other detectors. I know some people even run Ka Guard on with the V1 when doing wider sweeps to help cut down on the false alerts you'd otherwise be getting.

As for seeing what sweeps you have and changing them, like others said, you'll definitely need a BT module for the V1. If you plan on using a V1 regularly though, picking one up is a no brainer so you can pair it with a phone and unlock the full potential of the detector.

i'm sorry, maybe it's just lack of communication due to writting something instead of talking face to face. I don't take your statements as trying to convince me, and i'm not trying to argue the point, it was more of a question of widening the sweeps.

@Vortex i agree, i think those that live in the areas like myself that mainly use stalkers should probably do the 2.4.5.6.8 just to be safe. @Freebird and i were talking a couple days ago, and his opinion was even with the two extra bands, sweeps turned on, it doent make a real hill of beans if it comes down the a second or two, at highway speeds.

I was looking at the donggles on v1 site, looks like i can get one for around 50.00. it would be worth the money if i keep running the v1 everyday. Which right now I do, just because i found a great location for it on the headliner hardwired in. If i pull the sunvisor back a little i can see the arrows, it can withstand the summer heat and the winter colds better than most detectors, imo.
