R7's are supposed to do okay against it, though having a window mount RD here is not an option.

I discovered a new setting under "alert behaviour" in the menu: ECR filter (extra quiet - extra coverage).
Does anyone know what this is for?

Furthermore the VIP software is now called: 4.10.06 RL+
Does anyone know what the RL+ stands for? Before it was always "UK".

I’m guessing it’s Euroradar Captor???

Shame they can’t actually put resources towards actual threats and roll out features that we probably won’t use or give zero info on, good work stinger !!

No idea what it stands for, my own is saying 4.10.07 RL+ as well, I had not noticed that before you mentioned it.

RL+ is probably some new junk product they want to add to the stinger eco system.

Or they just added it to the end of the firmware revision to sound fancy?

Or deleted. The video that was there made a lot of grandiose claims about Freedom.
Probably new video will appear soon with next new junk product “RL+” with no upgrade path and zero development after release.

I’m really salty today as my worthless stinger false listed a real threat on me today 24.150. Current firmware work real good.... not...
Post automatically merged:

I’m guessing they just really enjoy annoying the Australian market.

When I load a new firmware for any product eg. my IPhone I get excited about new features n stuff.

Everytime I upgrade my Stinger I always think what have these muppets broken new.
No wonder they can’t keep a video link up.

I was asking Stinger HQ about the ECR setting and they replied very fast:

ECR = External Car Radar

So this is just a BSM filter, which can be set to extra quite or extra coverage. I think this applies only for FMCW radar, so @Dragons this might help your redflex detection.

Since my VIP is very quiet regarding falses, I am playing with some settings to keep my radar stress level busy. :D

When I uninstalled my VIP and laser squares from my last car I ended up cutting the cable that goes between the radar box and in-cabin CPU. For months I tried ordering one online from Stinger in the US but their cart system would always fail processing my credit card with a merchant ID error.

Finally they fixed that but they wanted $30 for the cable and another $30 for shipping! I ended up ordering a type B to type B male USB cable from an online cable store for $14 shipped and sure enough, it works fine.

I updated to v4.10.7 RL+ and noticed there's more Ka-band segment options when in Expert mode than their used to be, at least on the UK firmware (I'm in the US FWIW). I wonder if they've unified their english speaking firmware? Do AU owners have the option to band segment now or are you still forced to trust their GPS/Province based band segmentation?

edit:

Heh, this was a short lived experiment. I wired the power cables to a 12v socket so I could run the VIP inside the car without going through the trouble of actually installing it, and with the VIP antenna mounted on the sun visor facing forward, my own car's factory parking sensors (2018 VW Golf GTI) are setting it off a few times a minute with the default settings while sitting in my garage. If I set the ECR and radar sensitivity to extra quiet, I still get a 0 strength punch-through about every 45-60 seconds in the 24.14x - 24.200 range. None of my other windshield mount RD's have this problem (although my V1 will go nuts without TMF enabled, while TSR is not needed on my Escort or Uniden RD's).

Back in the box you go Stinger VIP.

Wow. Just wow is all I have to say lol. I've been following your VIP post for some time, it's one of the more interesting things that's been going on before all the excitement with the potential new V1 and Theia. That might sound crazy, but I find learning about the few RDs I can't/wont get my hands on to be very interesting.

I remember first thinking wow this system is so state-of-the-art it's going to be amazing! Now, when I hear Stinger I think of the detector that never did, never was, and missed its chance... And now all that HP under the hood is matched by a Max 360 or Uniden R7 in terms of signal processing.

What a shame, but I'm no longer surprised. Thanks for the interesting posts letting those of us track your use of the system, and opinions of it!

So I tried playing with the setting @nano suggested, it doesn't do anything against Redflex to improve the situation.

When in expert mode we've been able to use segmentation for a while now, though I haven't looked to see what more is available since the update, what we could really use is K segmentation, but that's fallen of deaf ears and entirely ignored.

Can't you filter it out with the "In Car radar filter" ?

When I tried that with my last car on earlier firmware, it did quiet things down (including other cars BSM's), but it also would FalseList police radar too. The UI behavior sucks too, even though it's not audibly alerting to filtered K-band signals, it still makes the display go yellow and display FalseList, so you're constantly seeing it alternate between the normal green status display and yellow FalseList display while driving around other cars.

With the latest firmware I hardly have falses of BSM's anymore.
