In no way have I done a thorough test however the last few Troopers and speed signs I've passed have shown strong front signal and then when I pass it fades and no side or rear indication. My prior RD was the R3 and prior to that was the Escort 360. My mount is center windshield to the left of mirror, none metallic tint strip and RD lens is below the strip either way. Just wondering if there have been issues or maybe I missed a setting? I'll try to do more controlled testing later but I don't have access to a radar so need to find a Ka speed sign.

Does the rear horn have an unobstructed view of your back windshield?

Also how much traffic was there? If the cop was only shooting radar in only one direction, and there wasn't anything for it to reflect off of back at you once you passed then it might've been a pretty weak rear signal.

Unobstructed to the rear, moderate to medium traffic. Like I said though, my results do not constitute any type of actual test. Just a couple of observations I had and was curious if there were any known issues.

The rear antenna is ridiculously sensitive..I've never not had it flip when passing a signal..if anything I've had it alert when my front antenna did not..to bsm ..not with a legit signal tho

Turn it around temporarily (just set it on your dash) and see if it alerts the same. There is no separate setting for the rear horn; it should be almost as sensitive as the front. In fact many people have complained about the rear horn being too sensitive and if holding on to signals too long, or shifting to the rear arrow before passing the source.

If running it backwards doesn't work, try a factory reset.

So I did a run by a known K band speed sign and it did switch from front to side to rear. It seems like its working properly so it may have just been an anomaly of the previous signals. Thanks for entertaining my question.

So later today I came up on a mobile trooper running Ka driving same direction ahead of me. As he slowed down to pull over I passed him and his radar was still on and I continued showing front radar until the signal weakened to where it stopped alerting. I though it was odd but I guess that goes to the unreliability of arrows. You really don't know which direction the strongest signal is in reference to the source.

How far did you have to go before the signal dropped? Is it possible he turned his radar off just about the time you were ready to pass him and the reason it stayed to the front was just because until then, the front horn was getting the strongest signal and after that time there was no signal, so it stayed to the front for a short time just because of latch?

I had a great opportunity to test the front and rear antenna today. I came up on a local LEO running Ka (34,747) on the side of the road. I may be off on the last numbers on the freq. I picked him up a good mile from his location with his radar pointing away from me so the front antenna is good. As I pulled next to him and slowly passed my R7 kept alerting to the front. As I drove I continued to get front Ka until it faded away. I did a U-turn further up the road and tried it the other way. My front antenna picked it up again and then same result, as I passed by him the alert stayed to the front radar. Mind you, his radar is now pointing away from me so the only signals are those bouncing off of traffic in front of him. There's no way my R7 should be still indicating he's in the other direction.
To make matters worse as I continued driving away the LEO pulled out and u-turned to come in my direction from behind. Now I have his full signal blaring through my rear window, still only front alert.

I'm calling Uniden today.

Yeah that sounds like your rear antenna isn't working at all.

Just got off the phone, very pleasant, listened to my story and said "yeah, it has a problem". She's sending me an email with return instructions. Now we'll see how their tech support response is working.

At this point, I'd agree with @Riptide's assessment.

Let us know how it goes.

I'll be shipping it to Uniden tomorrow. I had the option of returning this to Electronics Express but I'd rather Uniden have a chance to get to the bottom of it.

I decided I'm going to try one more time to reload the firmware in recovery, reset, and try one more time. I hate sending my stuff back to any company for several weeks.

Unfortunately no improvement. Came up on another city cop running Ka and no fluctuation in location, rear antenna acts like its dead.

I dealt with Uniden customer service one time. Total turnaround time from me dropping it the post office to another unit on my front porch was 8 days. I never even called them in advance. Just shipped it back with the online form from their website. They replaced it with another unit as the one I got back was a higher SN number. I would think you would have another unit by Friday of next week.

Thanks for the reassurance.
