Yesterday, after a good long day of hanging out with friends, I almost hit somebody on my way home.
As you can see, I was driving PSL, right lane, no traffic - and then this guy showed up out of nowhere (right side).
I don't know if I could have avoid him if I was distracted, on the phone, or going much faster.
I'm glad I have this dashcam footage as 'evidence', and glad I didn't hit him - but if I could go back I would pull over and push him in the face because he made me poop my pants a little bit.

Looked like he had a disabled car and was trying to get you to stop. I think any 16 year old would know stepping onto the roadway is not the best way to accomplish that. Glad you were alert and didn't hit him/her.

Looked to be a trailer that was disconnected sitting on a concrete block as they did not have a tongue jack. It looked like he was waving you out/over away from the tongue that was just into the road a hair. Why they did not roll the trailer back a bit is beyond me though. Crazy!

I went over the footage over and over again to try to figure out what was going on. I originally didn't pay that much attention to the trailer, but looks like it's one of those construction trailer, the kind they use on the side of the road, with flashy lights and displays messages. You can see the reflection of my headlights from the board. The guy could have been steeling solar panels from it or something, but I didn't see any car parked on the side or anything. I can't imagine stealing crap of a trailer at 2AM and walking home in total darkness.
On one of the first frame, you can tell he's past the white line, like he was crossing the road and then walked back and has his arm up covering his face.
I'm not sure what was going on, glad I didn't hit him but definitely gave me the creeps.

Good thing you had a camera
Yes! I wouldn't have believed what just happened and nobody would have when I tell them the story.

Thermal camera may have helped in this situation.

If you would have hit him if he had been in the traffic lane ahead of you, this is called overdriving your headlights and is not a good thing to be doing. There's not much you can do about other people being idiots, but there is one thing you could have done that would have kept you out of this situation: there was no traffic ahead of you or coming the other direction, so why weren't your high beams on?

Your high beams should ALWAYS be used when it's not illegal to use them. All of my cars have auto high beams and switch on the high beams automatically whenever it's legal to do so. I realize that it's a bit annoying to have to constantly flip your high beams ON and OFF if you don't have automatic ones but using them whenever it is legal to do so is a good habit.

at 25 seconds on the other side it looks like a reflection. could that been his vehicle? also, it looks like the trailer is turned almost sideways, maybe he was planning on stealing it. hummmm
