Finally got the chance to test out Waze's Carplay functionality.
Some of the issues I saw:
  • Missing reports
  • My reports not going through
  • Routing errors/internet issues
Looks like I'm sticking to the default app...
Has anyone else had similar issues?

No, I haven’t. CarPlay isn’t separate. It’s all just the app on your phone being displayed on a different screen. There’s no separate app or anything.

No, works fine for me.

Like VanCity, I've noticed you don't have quite the same options that you have on the phone, but it is easier to operate.

And one benefit to iOS 13 and CarPlay is the ability to show one app on the car's screen (e.g. Waze) and a separate app on the iPhone itself (e.g. Escort Live). Useful.
I run Waze high and center on the iPhone for alerts/visual and run google maps on CarPlay for useful directions.

So carplay and a seperate phone?
Apple finally bowed to pressure and now in iOS 13 allows an app on the phone to be displayed separately from the app it’s feeding to CarPlay. So your phone feeding CarPlay can have an app to be displayed (in his case Waze) while on CarPlay a different app is displayed (in his case Google Maps). There’s no need for a separate device.

I that is right now...They have always allowed something in the right screen but it was not an app, ex. details of the song playing and a picture of the album, or show current mpg range to empty etc. However I think it is only apple car maps they allow on the right not google maps but I will check...

It only allows Apple Maps, no other apps

For at least the foreseeable future, only Apple Maps can be shown on the dashboard page and not Waze or Google. But I've read on various discussion forums that it's possible Apple may allow 3rd party apps to use that space. Unclear if they'd need an API or already have access to it. Would be nice to have. For that reason I don't use the dashboard page at all, instead using Waze full screen on the car display and having EL running on the phone itself. Best of both worlds for me. Also wonder if having both apps running in that manner may help long term with BT connectivity issues, e.g. EL can't go to sleep and better maintains a BT connection since it's running in the foreground on the phone.

I haven't downloaded 13 yet (waiting for 13.1 tomorrow because of all the bug reports), but I'm really looking forward to the changes to CarPlay.

The new CarPlay is nice. I’ve noticed a few minor bugs but nothing major.
