Hey everyone,

Looking for some recommendations, I have had my eye on some models, specifically Uniden R3 and R7, don't know what the best for my situation is so here's my specifics:

1. What kind of vehicle you have and do you want a remote or a windshield mount?
2013 Charger SRT8. Fine with either, preferably a windshield mount for convenience, however if a remote setups offer better performance then I could give that up.
2. What's your budget?
Up to 1K.
3. Where you live ( address not needed of course) and what states , country or areas you primarily drive? ( this is essential)
Toronto, Ontario
4. How you drive?
Fast, but I want to go faster ;)
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?) we ask this because of falsing issues that exist in many areas or cities.
Short commute to work, but I go on drives frequently. On weekends I usually go to cottage.
6. How long you have been using countermeasures, if at all?
Do not use CMs, my dad has a Bel STi Driver that I've used a few times but yeah... I don't use anything myself.
7. Are there curves, hills, obstructions or is the area flat as a pancake.
A mix of both, depending on where I go. My commute is in the city, and my long drives are further out in the country.
8. Are there Redlight cams/speed cams in your area and do you need / prefer a GPS enabled unit?
There are a few redlight cams in my area, not many and I don't think it's worth worrying about.
9. Thanks to ahl: "Are you willing/do you want to use your phone to pair with the RD?" and "What kind of device do you own (iOS/Android)". There is Escort LIVE and droid only YaV1 for the V1 apps one can use to adjust their RD. There is also V1 Driver in the ios APP Store for V1 users who wish to use an Apple device. ** Note that many of these apps allow you to use the APP (either droid or Apple) to readjust your settings for the V1. Escort Live allows you to do this as well on Escort products that are LIVE compatible.
I don't care about using the phone with the detector.
10. Do you face MRCD and/or MRCT in your area?
Not currently, but I have read a few times that it is coming.

Also, radar detectors are illegal in my area, so it needs to be 100% invisible/stealth. If it is invisible from the Spectre Elite, is that enough? Or are there other RDDs to look out for?

Is the Uniden R3 or R7 a good choice for my use case?

Thank you in advance for all of your suggestions!

Catch 22. R1/R3s are king of range and are just about invisible to Spectre but the R7 has much better MRCD support and arrows, etc. BUT they aren't as invisible to Spectre...

The remote installed Radenso RC M gives you a front and back antenna that can be installed behind plastic bumpers, as long as the paint isn't metallic. That's about as stealth of an install you can get. Range is said to be very good with good BSM filtering. With the two antennas, you will have arrows. Another great feature is the face plate of the control module can be removed. Great anti-theft feature as well as cops not knowing what they're looking at if you did get pulled over.

However, this will cost more than the $1k you mentioned as your budget. Check it out on Radenso's website.

*Some* R1s/R3s are almost invisible to Spectre. @Vortex's testing this past spring shows the results can vary from unit to unit. Uniden has real qaulity control issues with respect to the Spectre susceptibility of their units. Some are good, others will get you a ticket pretty easy, and the brutal part is you have no clue what kind of unit you have, unless you have access to a Spectre which as we all know are tough to come by.

As someone who has an R3 in a prohib area like Ontario. I'm very careful with how I use it and how often I kill the power etc., And how paranoid I am about cops coming up from behind me. It's really a pain, so while I like the R3 performance, if I had it to do over again knowing Vortex's most recent testing, I'd go in a different direction.

Why not get a Redline EX? Isn't it 100% immune to spectre RDD?

^^ What he said assuming you keep your vehicle, don’t need multiple remote RD for multiple vehicles (and are on some sort of budget). Also, Escort Max 360ci has been getting excellent ratings too. Plus BSM filtering is tops, likely without slaughtering low powered k band range. If you want to compare remotes, look at these two.

If you are sticking to Uniden, my recommendation is R7 all the way. Like the display, performance, and of course arrows. I run arrow products and non arrow products in my inventory below. For me, keep coming back to arrows. Better awareness across the board.

Thanks man. I have been looking at the R series and I don't think I need arrows just yet seeing as I'm very new to the radar detection scene, I know how useful they can be but I have gotten used to the use of a detector w/o arrows. I looked around and it seems R3 is a fairly even middle ground so I went with it!

This set up looks badass. I ordered an R3 last night but assuming everything goes well I might upgrade to that next summer... need to do a lot more saving for that kit though!

Good to know, thank you. I bought an R3 so I'll keep my guard up while I get used to it. I saw a few videos claiming pretty much undetectable, but I guess I have a bit more research to do.

I looked at the Redline EX and it seemed like it was super expensive for comparable features to other models, I initially considered it but did more research and ended up coming to the conclusion of R3 vs R7. If I were to spend the money I think I would have gone for the R7 over it.

Ended up going with the R3. Arrows seem like a pretty sweet option but as a beginner I think it might be best to work my way up. My father used to have a detector without them and I got pretty used to using it and understanding the practices for owning it so I'll start here and see how it goes.

Thanks all!
