I pushed the <Factory Reset> as @johnboy00 suggested, and then ran it today in Logic (USA) mode with Ka-Guard off (I've never used it before though).

Had a Ka-band detection at 35.497. According to the JBV1 log, the distance from first detection to "flipover" was 0.224 miles (1,182 feet). It should be noted that this particular detection was through trees and the patrol car was facing at a 90-degree angle to the road. It was also unoccupied (as far as I could tell, it was parked at the ranger station) and backed into the driveway which is about 100 feet back.

I had a another detection, this time in K-band (24.180) from a second ranger with a "flipover" distance of .024 miles (126 feet), but I'm positive that this was a I/O shot at opposing traffic as the ranger was hidden behind a overgrowth concealing him from southbound traffic, but clearly visible to traffic traveling northbound (which was the direction I was going), and I didn't get an alert until I (and I assume, he) saw a car coming down the hill.

The first sounds good to me.

You mention that the Park Ranger vehicle was located 100 feet back from the road and the encounter area was woods so there would have been little to no reflection. Your 35.5 encounter seems consistent with a normally-functioning detector.

Not if the first thing he did when he inboxed it was power it up and set it to Euro mode for custom sweeps :)
Which is exactly what I did. Powered it up and configured it with V1Connection before actually using it.

Lately, my 3.8952 V1 has been giving me some real short Ka-band detections. And in most cases, I'm pretty sure that it's C/O, but the range I was getting an alert was... frightening.

The last couple of Ka-band alerts I've been getting, I'm seeing the cop with my own two eyes before the V1 goes off and I would have been toast if it wasn't for Waze. The one before last was a NJ State Trooper on the side of the road with a customer. It was obviously C/O because he wasn't in the car at the time, he was out talking to the motorist. My V1 didn't go off until about 800 feet away, even though the cop car was clearly visible.

The last one was a park ranger running 35.5 Ka-band, sitting on the side of the road. My V1 didn't go off until I was quite literally close enough to see his hair style. Again, almost positive that it was C/O because he was on his cell phone talking to somebody as I passed, not paying attention to passing traffic at all.

What's most disturbing is that I won't get maximum alert on the V1 until I'm literally 10-20 feet in front of the cop, if even that. I've passed cops running Ka-band C/O and even though I got within 15 feet of them, the V1 never "maxed out".

So far, K-band detections seem fine, but Ka-band has shown a drastic drop-off in range the past two months or so. I've been holding off sending it in for repair to see if the "new" V1 was coming out, but it looks like I'm going to have no choice now.

Very disappointing.

In your first example maybe the trooper had a hand held radar gun that he left laying on the front seat while he was out of the car. If it was moving radar maybe he had the rear deck antenna on which would be transmitting a signal away from you as you approach. Could have been say a mini van he had pulled over and he was pulled up right behind the vehicle, most of the signal would reflect away from you as you approach. There are many variables and explanations, every radar encounter is different.

They use dash-mounted units. In the first case I'm positive the unit was just left active while the ranger was inside the office. The vehicle was unoccupied and backed in at one of their substations.

This has prompted me to do factory resets on both V1's. As usual, JB makes it easy peasy.

@LeftLaneInPA - so do you think that the reset fixed the problem? Or need more seat time?

Not sure. LEOs have been uncooperative in helping me check to see if it helped. Just like when you get a new RD, they've all decided to not run radar right now.
i think it was the 1st encounter when the cop was on a traffic stop
Before or after I did the reset?

lets just say both.
First one before reset wasn't a "reflection" encounter, he was parked facing me at an angle with his rear to the woods.

First one after reset was at a 90-degree angle with initial detection through the treeline and he was backed in about 100 feet, facing (but perpendicular) to the roadway.
