Would you please consider disabling the double post merging "feature?" I hate it so much, and I can't be the only one.

Isn't that the one that merges back-to-back posts from the same member? Or is that completely different and/or why would you want to see post padding?

Yes, that's the one. I hate it because when I want to update a thread, if I was already the last poster my update gets "lost" at the end of the previous post. People may have liked the previous post but don't like the merged post(s), and vice versa. The styling of the merge isn't very aesthetic, either.

Do we get notifications for auto-merged posts? That can be an issue if we don't.

For example: (similar to above) If I write this post, someone was notified and then reacts to it, then I add a new post below that which ends up auto-merged, I don't think anyone gets a notification of the new content.

They do however get a notification of the next person. It can be easy to miss the new content above that other person's post.

The other issue is if I am specifically answering a Member’s question and then I scroll down five or six posts and answer another Members question; it then merged the two posts together whether they have anything to do with each other or are completely different. Not good in my opinion IE can cause confusion especially for new members. THEN to make things worse if they are completely different and a fourth party (not me and not either of the Members I replied to) gets involved by replying to my merged post, it is then a total mess.

And as for so called post padding, that is noticeable isn’t it and really doesn’t apply to Advanced User does it? Is there a way to make the Merge an option as part of the reply function for Advanced Users?

I also dislike this feature because it doesn’t always bump the thread to indicate activity. Who knows how many tiny pieces of addendums I’ve missed as a result of this feature.

I think it can be useful for the case that some users rapid fire a bunch of replies because they can't understand/forget about the multiquote option.........but It would be nice if there were a shorter time limit. Say 10 minutes before it comes a separate post instead of a merged one?

Use Multi-Quote

Totally agree with this. It needs a time limit where it stops automerging after a time.

Yes, a time limit for auto-merge would solve a lot of issues.

I also hate it. I have liked a post, then the OP posted again, it double merged, then it still thinks I like the post, but sometimes I don't agree with the second half. RDT did not have double post merging and it was, is better. Please consider.

We can see who is trying to boast their post count. The security team won't be fooled. I guess a best for all would be to have the merging disabled for INT and higher members if that is the concern. But I completely agree with @johnboy00 that I hate when it merge posts....

@SquirrelMaster @PY004 How about we try it with a shorter time limit for a while and see how it works out? Might be a good compromise.
