Monday 9/9/2019 GSP Southbound just south of the Montvale rest area in the center up on a small hill overlooking the SB side, got a quick hit of K band, then saw him up on a hilltop in a marked SP SUV turned sideways with the windows down. No BSM falses around me before or after the alert. My MAX360 is pretty quiet on BSM anyway, but if BSM is around me, I know it is not a one time alert, so I think this was the real deal. That was a first in my experience with NJSP.

I've heard of lidar in this area. But no hits with that yet. I was within tolerance, so probably not going to get tagged. Nice to know my 360 gave me ample warning in case I was in a hurry that day. That would have been a save.

And just yesterday I saw a similar SO hilltop shooter SUV on Rt 9 in the City of Poughkeepsie, NY near the town line (south end of the city) looking at NB traffic. No alert detected. I'm betting I/O K band or maybe even lidar, although K is what they usually use.

Bastids!

Was this a local Leo or NJSP using K band?

NJSP for sure. Saw the markings clearly on the side of the white SUV.

I wonder if he was using a hand held device. Being parked sideways with the window down, that would make sense.

I’m willing to bet it was Laser he was shooting and not K band. NJSP use Ka 34.7 and X band. I’m not aware of them using K band. I will keep an eye out for K band.

Doing a follow up

Absolutely no k-band for NJSP. Only LTI and Ka-band Stalker DSR & DSR2X

Front. Actually, I get the blast before he was in sight. The cars in front of me were shot.

Well, if there is no K band, the only other thing could have been a BSM. And it had to come from someone on the other side. I pass this area all the time, and never get K band from doors or anything. I'm just reporting what I observed.

as radarrob said, he was shooting laser as K band is not used by the NJSP. It's too early in the morning and I'm too dang lazy to upload the video, but yesterday there was an NJSP with a customer and the encounter was startling due to the vehicle he was driving....a plain black Ford Explorer with no markings, antennas, spotlights etc. The Explorer had upgraded wheels which is unusual on a LEO mobile. The only thing different about this vehicle was tinted front windows (illegal in NJ) and he had disco lights in the grille. The NJSP are damn good at speed enforcement and rarely cut you slack if they pull you over. My first speeding ticket decades ago was from the NJSP. I was late for college graduation, got paced and pulled over. He walks up to the car, "License registration and insurance. I'll be back with your ticket". Uh, OK.
