Similar symptoms from two different models from the same user...
Perhaps malware in the updating process?
Some other bug?
Just throwing that out there as this seems to be an isolated event.

I understand having to pay for shipping it to them is a bummer. But that's industry standard (at least according to the warranty terms of Uniden, Escort, Valentine, and Radenso).
Unfortunately. Guess working in IT and having companies typically cover this kind of thing within a warranty period has me spoiled with high expectations.

Hey, I am willing to entertain the possibility at this point. I actually considered this so, one of the reflashes I did from a different laptop that I normally use exclusively for my Cobb Racetune software (no antivirus, doesn’t get internet access). Didn’t seem to make a difference. Software and firmware files were downloaded fresh each time. I do work in IT so I considered the possibility of corruption, but md5 hashes came back the same on each download.

Did you have any different recommendations? Maybe I just haven’t thought of something. It is kinda personal so it is possible my frustration is clouding my approach.

lol mostly I think I am going to have to quit whining about it, eat the warranty shipping cost, and go on with my life and avoid Uniden products.

Something weird in your environment maybe, do you have more than one car? If so you could isolate the RD to only one of them and see if the problem still happens.

Have been on the hook with @UnidenSupport For the about a month now. I am just upset that I will be paying out of pocket for a $600 device to get fixed up and I have only owned it for a few months. Would really like to see them step up and take ownership of the problem. (Holding my breath).

My R1 started showing performance hits sorta early on. Every time I would reflash it, it would work great for a few weeks, then fall on its’ face. Since the warranty replacement I am not having the issue anymore. Well, now the R7 is exhibiting similar behavior. I only have a few falses to go on, but they are very telling. Eventually the R7 stops reporting them, then I reflash and poof, they are back. A factory reset performed every time, then my settings put back just like before. I am getting where I can practically program this thing in my sleep.
Just out if curious where you bough the R1 and R7?
Are you able to post a video of this behaviour?
(just an fyi if you didnt know you can go back to a previous FW version with the Uniden's)

If you bought an R1/3/7 for great MRCD protection you will be disappointed. Uniden provided this as an unannounced free update to the R1/3 and while we appreciated that, it hasnt gone that well and just a guess but they may have even regretted adding this. While we all have our own wants/asks improved BSM filtering is what would make the majority of current owners the happiest...

Did have 4 cars, down to 3 now. Same behavior between all cars using different power cables (I have 2 of each, V1 and Uniden).

Bought my R1 from BRD, the R7 from BB. And no I didn't buy them for MRCD, I wanted sheer range and sensitivity (lots of hills, foliage, and turns, and I have an M3 Redline, so my range expectations were sorta high). The BSM filtering was a definite want; my V1 was doing OK but the range is not on par with what I needed anymore.

I actually had better performance out of the 124, but now that I am thinking about it, it may have just been the fact that I reflashed and reset it that first time when I upgraded it from the FW that shipped.

At any rate, I need to suck it up and eat the shipping and quit whining (even though I feel in my right to lol). And I appreciate the thought and help you guys. One thing about RDF, you guys seem to talk some of us hot heads off a ledge when we are being whiny and frustrated. I hurt my back last week so I have been kind of a bear with a sore ***.

Thanks. I bought mine from BRD and have a feeling and nothing more that units bought from BB or other suppliers seem to have more issues. I agree while under warranty, free shipping should be included but it doesn't seem to be the norm. Hope you feel better and get it all straightened out soon.

Interesting, as I had to return the first R7 I bought back to BB as the OLED failed within 24 hours (bright blue vertical line through all display formats). The 2nd one I bought (also from BB) seems to be holding up well so far.

And here we are in October and STILL NO UPDATE...

@UnidenSupport - where are you? Is there going to be an update to address the various R7 issues which have been identified for months?

They did answer a previous tag a little while ago. I sent them a PM and haven't seen an answer yet.
With the previous answer was along the lines of a new firmware is in the works and as soon as the person finds out who runs that account we will be the first to know.

Hey Guys,

I know this all has been very frustrating for you all. I've sent notes over to my corporate office, just waiting for an answer as to when we might see an update for the unit.

I have not been advised of any date that a firmware update would be released. As soon as I see any updated from our project manager, I'd be happy to inform you all!

Sorry for all the trouble.

Thanks.

Agree no trouble....really appreciate you commenting here. That is what we want and appreciate, be visible and vocal. Some of us got spoiled in someways with the R1/3, there were so many regular and great updates we got used to that as being the norm...

the problem isn’t the support person that wrote that response. He/she is giving us everything he/she has. He/she is just in a bad position. As I said before, the company scripts what she/he can say very closely. this is what the company gives her/him to give to us, which essentially was:

I know this is frustrating. I have sent notes to the “management team” asking what is going on. Even though I am a customer service representative for Uniden Radar Detectors, I know absolutely nothing of what is planned in the way of customer support for the R7. When I do hear something, I will tell you.

Not exactly what she said, which was she doesn't know when the next firmware update will be released. Depending on what Uniden is working on, and what progress they feel they've made or haven't made, the project manager may not know yet when it will be released himself/herself.

lol. Ok, but i honestly think that my statement is much closer to what she said (seems pretty accurate to me anyway) than yours is. nevertheless, she now has the opportunity to clarify it herself, rather than leaving it to us.

Didn’t Uniden recently lose their main RD guy? Wouldn’t it make sense that it would take them some time to get reorganized?

I think she was perfectly clear.
