7/24/19, from Unidensupport:
We have been relatively vocal about the Auto Lockouts. While its true that we haven't said much about when we're expecting them- it is just something that we do not provide. We keep release dates close to heart because there is a lot that can go wrong before we actually release the update.

7/2/19, from Unidensupport:
No Problem. A lot of it has been speculation here, and with good reason... it is a feature people want and we have said that we would have it.
After a while, speculation gets turned into fact in a lot of peoples' minds and I don't much care to see people unhappy because they feel let down.

7/2/19, from Unidensupport:
The R7 was designed to have the function and we do plan on having it.

Those sure sound like a promise to me, not just the capability, but actually having it. I am pretty sure there are others but I quit searching at that point.
Vortex stated that auto lockouts would be out after the first update...

And that’s really what I’m talking about. He simply passed on what Uniden told him and now Uniden has literally left him holding the bag.......their bag. Uniden has not acted well in this episode.

Where is the resident Uniden rep and can't he/she shed some light on this?
No ambiguity. Just tell the class if auto lockouts will or will not be implemented...and if so when?

They have, many times. No release date announced, but I would expect it to be after the Escort patent expires 06/14/2020

We have never made a statement on when it would be available.
I apologize about all of the frustration this has caused.

Respectfully, that's the same spin R7 owners have heard since it's release.
Autolocks was one of the features that swayed buyers into buying the R7.
It's *Uniden's* responsibility to either confirm or deny that autolocks will or will not be implemented...and if so provide a window when that will happen.

Since GPS signals also include the date, it would be funny if the feature was already implemented in the current firmware, but had a check to only enable it once Escort's patent expired. Highly unlikely, but a funny thought.

Respectfully, as a recent R7 purchaser, I bought the device for the features it had at the time of sale.
Not a future possible firmware feature upgrade.
While I had seen the speculation that the R7 may get auto lockouts, and that would be a great addition, I didn't base my purchase on it.
It wasn't on the box, instructions, or advertising. I wasn't mislead.
I think enthusiasts get a little carried away with expectations of manufacturers to grant their wishes.
If this was my new vehicle, I certainly couldn't complain that next year they added features at the same price. No way they would give me a free feature upgrade.
You get what you buy, any upgrades from original is a great bonus.
Why wouldn't Uniden add auto lockouts to a new model R7plus?
Get more sales.....

Except that many of us DID purchase the R7 rather than the Escort based in large part on these promises.

When I upgraded from the R3, it was early (waiting list) there was lots of hype about many of the new features, including auto lockouts. I am a little disappointed it isnt available to-date, but am confident when they can (legally or otherwise) they will and look forward to trying it then.

That was your consumer mistake.
1) This was all based on speculation on possible future features, not official releases. Would you believe a car salesman if he said you could get a 100 hp upgrade to your car like next years model is maybe getting?
2) Again, refer to the my post that you get what you paid for. Uniden delivered on every feature as listed, online, on the box, in the manual, and advertising. No one to date has shown an official promise.
They have capability and some communication has indicated intent. But you were never sold the R7 as a guaranteed feature.
Kudos to Uniden for continuing to provide firmware updates for bugs and feature / performance improvements to RDs sometimes years past purchase date.
If you bought an R7 because of auto lockouts you were too impatient to wait for the feature to actually arrive and be reviewed as to its functionality.

No, not "speculation".
The Autolock feature was promoted by a respected vendor along with others with inside knowledge that potential consumers did not have.
There were many customers on this forum who made the decision to purchase the R7 based on inside information provided by those selling the R7, those who review detectors as well as information provided by Uniden.
If Autolock is a myth...Uniden has done nothing to dispel that myth.
If it's not a myth, Uniden has done nothing to confirm that either.
Uniden could end any speculation with one sentence posted on this forum.

Thank you for clarifying how we got "promised" this feature.
Information from a "vendor"
Insider knowledge
Customers didn't have this knowledge.
Info from a forum
Speculation from a forum.

Where in here does anyone see any official announcement or advertisement from the "manufacturer"?
Not vendors, salespersons, forums or birdies whispering in our ears.

You put "promised" in quotes.
I did not use the word "promised".
I used the word "promoted"....and that's precisely what was done by resellers and others who have inside knowledge with some at Uniden.
It's not necessary to mis-quote me to make your point.
With that...I'm done.

I did misread that.
Promised in quotes was a more general reference to all the upset people asking where are the auto lockouts that were supposed to be coming....
Promoting is what salespersons do.
Buyer beware.

Possibly off-topic, but I'd love to see a firmware update that allows for updating via BT/app instead of hardwire connection. I seem to have to relearn how to do that on my Mac with every firmware update.

That would require different hardware. That’s not a firmware update.

Makes sense. Wasn't sure if the R7 had built-in bluetooth or not. My TMG is a breeze to update firmware so I am spoiled with that unit.

It really gets weary reading this stuff. Nothing meant personally, but these are the things that Uniden hopes you will say. Uniden specifically told several people, yes some were vendors, some were salespeople and some were forum members. I don’t have any idea why that makes any difference, Uniden told them the info no matter who they were. And I gave you several quotes where Unidensupport said they were going to have auto lockouts. And Bestbuy salespeople said they had it. You think all these people are just making it up? Obviously not, that would be a huge coincidence. So if anyone is misleading people it is Uniden. And the fact is that several people bought it partly based on auto lockouts, so if you personally didn’t, that is great, but a lot if people did. I am a Uniden fan. I like their products for the most part but nevertheless on this particular occasion they left their ethics outside the door.

I know we all have different expectations and such from a manufacturer, but for me I will probably not buy another Uniden due partly to this incident. I sort of want to go to Radenso anyway. Again, I completely understand that several people won’t agree with me, but i bet there are others.

Still waiting for someone to provide documentation where Uniden officially said when the R7 would support auto lockouts... because, Uniden really owes us nothing.

Vortex is not a official representative of the company, and regardless of who told him, it is still secondary information as reported.

In weary from hearing the complaints about a feature possibility leaked through the grapevine.
I have not heard one public statement to the general public or press of R7 getting this feature, or by any indicated date.
If a journalist on a GM plant tour quoted an engineer saying they were going to release a 300 mph corvette upgrade this fall, and they didn't, but GM never ever publicly stated that as fact, why would anyone be upset?
I think we expect a lot of a low cost electronic device in terms of support.
Be thankful we get as good as we do from all companies.
Too many products I've had was the moment they took your money, your on your own.
And yes, I do want auto lockouts. Please Uniden, consider these loyal enthusiastics request.
