Hey all!

Had an interesting detection and surprise today! I was driving south from Knoxville on I-40 in NC and picked up a 35.5 signal in a new location. (Never have I seen a signal here near the tunnels)
I pick it up at the entrance of the tunnel and although it doesn't show here (because I lost GPS and logging temporarily), I had a continuous alert. After I exit the tunnel I start looking in front of me but realize that now the signal is from behind. (THANKS arrows!)

I look back in my rear view and there he is on a service road BEHIND the tunnel's exit about 100 feet. I'm going to have to watch that from now on!

Clearly he picked a high visibility spot so that everyone would see him and drive more slowly........ For safety.

There are many areas near there that they could use to be sneaky and they rarely patrol there at all. He must have been bored or a gung-ho newbie.

At least it was radar and not laser!

The old ambushed you from behind technique. The sneakiest LEO'S use the sneakiest techniques. :hmm: but that is very interesting with the tunnel. I've traveled the tunnels in West Virginia and Virginia for many years and never have had an alert while in a tunnel. And of course always lose GPS connection on the dfr7 and dfr9.

I was surprised to get the alert through there. When I didn't see him pointing directly at us as we exited I started looking for that access road. It's actually really hard to see that access road at all.

Does anybody else just want to go explore that access road? Good detection though.

FF coming out of the tunnel? That's honestly impressive from 35.5. I have definitely seen some strange detections with all the tunnels up here, both longer and shorter than expected. Tunnels seem to do whacky things to signals.

And I've said it before and I'll keep saying it until the end of time: I absolutely LOVE the alert logs!

If you Google Maps the name "Buzzard's Roost Overlook" in Clyde, NC you can see the access road and streetview around that area. :)

Interesting alert. Never had an alert in a tunnel before, it's crazy that the LEO was using FF radar and the waves traveled through the tunnel. Sneaky for the normal person, might be a benefit for the RD user!

Lots of semis on that road. I imagine that helped. :)

Next time I go through there I'll have to mark it as a speed trap in JBV1 for myself. I might have to take the access road to maintain GPS. :cheerleader:

I need to install an exhaust cutout on my Accord. And an ambient venting blow-off-valve.

Nice one I know exactly where that is - go through there when we go to HHI. I’ve seen one there a time or two but not that far back, just right where the tunnel ends. I don’t know how they could come out after someone though it would be hard to see who’s coming out of the tunnel and not cause an accident.

Hmm but yes all about safety.
