This is a follow-up I promised @crabu2 in response to a thread started by @MUHooligan.

My 2.5 year old, early serial number R3 burnt up on the windshield last month. It still powered on, but no longer detected any radar. After contacting the CS folks at Uniden and receiving an RA number, I shipped it back for possible repair.

Today, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a like-new (pretty sure it's a refurb) R3 and upgraded coiled power cord in a new case. The packing slip indicated it's a replacement for my original unit, and there's no charge for anything! Thanks and kudos to @UnidenSupport for taking good care of me.

I don't think I'll ever know what the cause of the original unit's failure was, but it must have been severe enough to be irreparable. In any case, I'm back on the road with my trusty R3, running 1.50 and eager to see how the K block feature works...

Awesome! I was worried about sending my R3 back in time when it stopped alerting 5 days before the one year warranty expired. I sent it in for repair and it was exchanged with what appeared to be a new unit with the most recent firmware in a lil over one week.
I kept getting the "GPS ERROR" with my replacement but flashing the firmware solved that issue.
