A poll would probably work better for this one.
I tried
Too much BHO in my system

If a mod can change this to a two choice poll that would be great

Uniden needs to start using the same single suction mount like the R7 design. Way better than the R1/3.

How is it different? They look about the same based on the Uniden website images. The one weak point about the Unidens is the mediocre mounting hardware. But I put up with it in exchange for the great range and decent BSM filtering!

The R7's single suction mount is like the Escorts. It does not have a plastic locknut although with the R1/3 mount, you can swivel it side to side, up and down. With the R7, it can be adjusted up and down only.

The suction cup itself is the same on the R1 as it is on the Escort. But on the R1 mount the stalk must be filed down a bit to allow level mounting on
raked windshields. And yes it appears the locking nut does last as long. Mine has not failed yet but I ordered a spare mount for backup.

Here is a picture of the single suction mount for the R3 on the left (assuming the same with the R1) vs the R7 on the right. It also move the unit closer to the front of the windshield with the R7 mount.
Ah, now I see it. BIG difference!

I have been using the Garmin sticky cup and the Uniden bracket with the Uniden nut for my R3. The lock nut seems ok on mine but I take it down frequently due to theft fears. I bet the lack of sun exposure is keeping mine ok. Stress from heat and vibration could be a factor in this.

I never had an issue with mine.

I do have an extra one laying on the shelf I would let go cheap.

I'll keep that in mind

What'd I win? A new lock nut? :)
Hopefully someone will see this thread and send you one
I'm finding some of the vent phone holder nuts are the same and fit
Even the strongest epoxy glued several ways doesn't work right
