Over the last several months many new setups have been cropping up in south florida... I did a few little one off tests with a couple guns, but we wanted to gather for a little larger meetup to do a little more testing so we decided to do a mini meetup rather than waiting for the full winter meet to do a little testing. Of course the weekend we selected is right before hurricane Dorian is scheduled to arrive so that added a lot of chaos to the mix. Timing was a challenge as some (myself included) folks had additional prep to do and gas was a little limited, or usual course and backup course were both closed for the hurricane meaning we could use them. We ended up using the little course that I use for quick one off tests, It's a public road with light traffic, pull off and median cut through for turn around. It worked very well for the test but we got a later start due to having to reconfigure the plans and with limited places to park we ended up having to have the folks waiting for test wait down the road so were weren't able to stay as one group. Folks were awesome and were great despite all the challenges from the course changes, schedule, and chaos from the incoming weather, and it sounds like everyone waiting was socializing and having fun. again due to timing we did limited runs and didn't do all guns, we focused more heavily on the harder guns making the educated guess that if it was highly successful with the harder guns that the easier ones would be well covered. and some of these setups have been tested against the easier guns in the past and did well.

Guns:
Recent DETC
Recent Stalker XLR
Truspeed S
Truspeed LR - Gun was displaying an error on startup
Prolite - didnt use due to time

Big thanks to riseboi for bringing his collection of guns for the test!

I have done plenty of testing with DETC and TSS and know my performance there and due to the time I decided to forgo testing on the other guns, but the LI's havent gone against the XLR yet (they dont alert to DE at all) so I wanted to see how they do there... they do well against this gun at least, they did fine against TSS and Prolite in my previous testing. Was curious to see how they did against the TSLR but since it was throwing an error we didnt use it. ALP results havent changes much since the 2018 Winter testing event :)

It does seem improved in this install and current algo's compared to previous testing, the rear is still IPT anywhere out to 500 feet or so then JFG against DE, but does well against anything else.

Very solid performance, a few PT's on the back against De at short range, but overall a very good setup that should do well in the real world.

6thgear: BMW430I - TMG Dual

6thgear.png

1567447556551.png

Overall very solid performance considering the heads being low, PT's on DE were on the outer headlight area which is about the furthest point away from the heads.

Bigvic: Challenger - TMG Triple

1567448758526.png

1567448900295.png

Overall the setup tested well, we did get one PT dead COM within 6 inches of the head at 675 feet which is very odd to me... that said we couldn't repeat it, so perhpas there was an odd reflection off a sign or oncoming car that interfered, otherwise the COM was at fine at 163 feet. Should do perfectly well in the real world.

CA90- Tesla P90D - ALP Dual

1567450531372.png

This install did very well, the heads are recessed and low (tesla's have very limited placement options) and while I would expect more issues is elevation shots due to the recess, in the straight and level terrain they did very well. the PT's on the headlights is not unexpected with it only being a dual ALP and with the distance from the heads. Overall it should do fine in most real world conditions.

Venom690 - Kawasaki Bike - Adaptiv TPX (2F/1R)

So the Adaptiv TPX struggled today with the XLR. In previous tests against this same gun it was JTG from the front on all guns (rear head was new for this test), however during testing we were getting frequent PT's out to 650+ feet front and rear on the Stalker XLR but had one run front and rear where it was JTG/JFG. No idea what happened here, results are very unusual. we checked and it appears all heads are firing, but the results are notably worse than previous tests where it was basically JTG on all guns.

Final Thoughts:

Yet again the test event showcased the true spirit of our members despite all the chaos from the weather and course changes at the last second everyone came together and had a good time. Lots of folks met for the first time and everyone got right into good CM discussions and were looking at all the installs and working together to complete the test. It's always been my experience that our members are pretty great people and very passionate about the hobby, very willing to donate their time and resources to help each other, it was great to meet and work with more of them and I look forward to the main winter event where we will have more time and hopefully better conditions. The test itself while hurried and not as thorough as I would have liked accomplished the main goal of determining the setups basic performance and helping people build confidence in thier systems as well as learn the limitations they may have. Thanks again to all that participated and to riseboi and drtoddw for the laser guns we had there for testing, I look forward to seeing you all again soon at the winter event for even more testing!

Thanks for all the hard work and your time guys ! The random 500-600ft+ PT's on DE have stopped with the VPR head in testing, now we are working on the close PT's. Good to see we got the XLR nailed down pretty well.

thanks for the test Bravo and Riseboi, it was fun meeting some new members and being able to help.

I was also able to learn a great deal about laser guns.

The random results on the TPX and the XLR are a bit confusing, specially because the TPX did so good against the DETC, yet it sometimes did jam the XLR, I think in the real world it would had been a save from the XLR unless you decided to keep speeding as the alert is going off as it is really hard to target a moving bike and get an instant reading.

I wrote to TPX so hopefully they can advise us better.

Venom,

@6thgear might add a verticle head in the center, or wait for the VPR head. That low install did pretty well, I'm impressed !

@BigVic might move the center top head to the lower top of the grill mounted centered.

Yes, I am patiently awaiting news on the VPR head. Is it going to be a single head, or needed to be used in pairs?

At the moment, I do not believe DE is used in my area so I am in no hurry.

I have to say, these results by TMG are pretty impressive, I will consider for my car in the future.

I looked but didn't see a picture of the install, the forum search is having issues displaying some threads so I may have missed it. Will update when I find it!

Thanks for the input. I may look into that, but overall I'm pretty pleased with the results. I will double check my leveling / alignment to make sure they are the same as when thebravo and I installed them.

I want to say thank you to the organizers/testers and all who participated. Despite multiple potential setbacks, storms, rain, hurricane, etc. we got it done. And everyone was very cool about it...no stress. I enjoyed meeting everyone and it was great talking CM stuff...I learned a lot.

As far as performance, I was pretty pleased. My car is quite large and it did OK with the initial head placement. A little tweaking and I think I could do better against the DETC. And JTG to other guns was great.

Look forward to the next get together.

I don't want to de-rail this thread, but it's single head for front and rear option. That's great DE is not a concern. Your setup should do very well in the real world.

We have random DE in FL, a city or county here and there might have a couple of them... By far the XLR is the big one we see a bunch (both antijam on and off)... In my search of social media I say everything from ultralytes up to DE, but most were either XLR or fixed rate stuff (truspeed, Pl3/4 etc). And even if you do encounter DE most of the systems jammed it pretty well for several seconds before a PT occurred of course a random PT can occur any time but generally it offers at least moderate protection... If you get hit with DE daily that might not be enough but for a rare encounter it will likely be OK. Look forward to the VPR head to see how it does. Some of the longer PTs might have been an odd reflection too... I found when I was driving my car with the two separate laser systems that my front ALPs went off several times after I passed the shooter from reflections off objects ahead while they were shooting my rear LIs. The one down side to this course is it has more signs and more traffic and more reflections are possible.

Nicely done and thanks to all the participants that took part.
Not an easy feat considering you all have friends and family in the Florida area that have a hurricane headed your way.

Well wishes and hope all goes well in the next few days from me in Canada. Watching it closely.

Good stuff gents! Nice write up @thebravo
Lidar testing is always a blast, sounds like this was no exception. Glad to hear that a recent XLR concern has been addressed.

It appears to have been, but of course only one gun and a couple setups, so more testing needed :)

This is the 3rd confirmed test, and on 3 different guns vs 8.06 algo. The more testing, the better. Ming is confident XLR/RLR has been addressed.
