Guys, can we say where I can purchase the DFR7 at $130? Thanks.
I don't wanna post the link here because it's an affiliate link, but you can find the link and discount code on the front page of my website.

OMG, it works. Dude, Vortex, you are awesome. What a great deal! I have $11 tax on top of the $129 but that's still an amazing deal. Free shipping. Thanks man!

Nice!

Thanks much for the info!
Now to find Db 7/4/19 that came on Your DFR7.
My DFR7 came from Beach Camera via Amazon with the same Fw, but with Db 19/01/04.
I'll keep searching, but what I found so far is not Db 7/4/19.
Thanks again!

Hmmm...wonder if it's worthwhile to try to update My Db.
Your Db is 6 months newer than mine.
May I ask If Your unit came with that date Db or did You update it?
Thanks much

You can update your DFR7 with the DB that came with the R3 fw 1.50. However, you need to use the DFR7 DB updater from here: http://support.uniden.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/DB_20181004.zip

And then use the DB that is included in the R3 fw here: http://support.uniden.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/R3-V1.50-Firmware-V1.28-Updater-Red-Light-Database.zip

That will get you the 19/07/04 DB on your DFR7.

This thread has had me thinking about my DFR6 for the past couple of days, so I decided to take it out today and throw it on the windshield for approximately 50 miles worth of around town errands. It wasn't mounted in the most optimal place (low by the drivers side A pillar), but that was as far as I could easily reach from the power point. The picture is for comparison to where my R3 sits.

I had one pretty nice 35.5 encounter, as shown in the video. Even with 35.5 not being considered it's strong suit (we all know 34.7 holds that title), I'd say that this is a pretty solid encounter for what I assume was the LEO's rear antenna, based on how the signal was displayed. BSM's were kept to a minimum. I only saw one from a Mazda CX-5, which was always the unit's kryptonite when I was using it day to day. It definitely still does it's job as a radar detector.

Unfortunately, there are a few cons that I now notice after a few months of owning my R3. The way alerts are displayed is probably the biggest one to me. I am absolutely not a fan of the ramp-up. It is sporadic and not natural feeling. I don't even know for sure from the video attached which antenna is being used. The R3's ramp-up is much better at giving you that information. With such a sporadic ramp-up, it can be tough to get a true sense of information. The lack of an accurate display did start to bug me. I did have a few more unverified 35.5 encounters, but they all displayed as 35.5. A few were in areas I am certain I have never seen 35.53x on my R3. And trying to distinguish K band falses from real alerts is tough with the non-accurate display. And finally, the lack of Ka Priority and adjustable auto-mute level still bug me to no end. This is not a problem with the 8 and 9, but for those looking at a 6 or 7, be warned that these options don't exist.

The platform is definitely still usable day-to-day, especially if you don't speed like crazy. If you can live without the GPS stuff, the R1 is so cheap now that it's honestly a no-brainer. But if you can't swing the R3, I highly recommend the DFR7 or (even more so) the DFR9 for the added features. The family got me into the hobby and kept me protected.

I still use my LDR950 with my speaker timer/relay mod on it so it is silent on startup. I has the DFR firmware on it now.
Until there is a better detector in terms of detection or it is needed for some new kind of gun then I wont buy a newer version.

Whenever someone wants an RD, I always say to wait for a deal to get the DFR7 for $130. I just dont see justification to buy a newer version yet.
You know, with DFR7 firmware you can make it completely silent on startup, too. If you ever don't want to use your mod...

I think I jinxed myself by starting this thread. Now, my years-old trusty 950 turns on and just reads "Uniden" on the display. He's broken! What happened???

The only difference is, after years of using the cigarette lighter for power, I finally got around to hard-wiring him a few weeks ago. I selected a switched fuse but I did not select one that has power during cranking. So, each time I started the car, he'd turn on, off, on. Maybe that messed him up? Soooo bummed man! :(

Ok, just ordered two (2) DFR7s at $129 ($140 after (CA) tax, free ship) each, for $280 total, shipped. Thanks @Vortex ! :D

I used my 2% cash back Citi card so ~$274 total. :D

Guys, you're giving me ideas :) Does the R3 and DFR7 use the same mounting bracket?
Thanks.
Look at the Uniden page.
Windshield Bracket with 2 Suctions Cups
Fits the following Models:
LRD950
DFR6
DFR7
DFR8
DFR9
I’ve been getting away with using a modified ProSe Blendmount with the R3 & 950. The 950 locks but is a little on the loose side.

Guys, I'll just report back that I have the eBay permanent Uniden mounts in our cars and the DFR7 (just arrived) is a perfect fit, rock-steady. I like the all-black appearance. FW = 1.12. I think the database is April of this year.

Did we decide the TSF on this particular detector harms K band in a bad way?

Thanks.

FWIW, I thought I would relay Our drive yesterday and the performance of the DFR7.
Our route was across the Delaware at Dingmans's Ferry Bridge and then the RD started to get some snacks of K on Rte 206 SB ( Many times it has been Sussex County, NJ LEOs), then on down 15 to I-80 towards The City....on 80 I kept getting a Ka signal and after about a min here comes ( WB) a NJSP Ford SUV, then the RD was QUIET, despite the fact We are in typical I-80 traffic!
Then I-287 SE and another dose of C/O Ka from the other side of the freeway. My Better half commented on how quiet the RD was and when it did alert it was a LEO rig . I left it on HWY with only the K-filter on for the whole ride, even down in The Milburn/Chatham area on surface streets...it worked well...snagged a couple of speed signs at good range. Since We were about 8 miles from a station selling E-85, I snagged a tank of that ( E-85) in the Avenger ( that 3.6Flex Fuel Pentastar really seems to like the Ethanol fuel...IMO it feels even stronger on it than gasoline)...the station was next to the EWR so it was a non-fun ride over and back to the Dr's Office in Milburn. Talk about High-Density population....I really expected to have to use CITY Mode, but the RD was quiet except when We saw a speed sign near a school and a Local Leo.
We had 1 PT from a CX5 on 80 on the way down and one unknown k alert on the way home.
It seems the RD is balanced nicely between range and Falses rejection IMHO in the areas We drive and for My driving style.
Doc

PS: My Settings> All Bands on
POP=Off
TSF=Off
Only filter on = K
Ka= Wide
K= Wide

Hey Troops!
Let Me start by saying I'm sure this has probably been covered elsewhere...I just didn't find it, so apologies to The Folks who knows all of this stuff backwards and forwards in Their sleep!!
:)
I am just curious if I need to do the factory re-set in the menu on The DFR7 AFTER updating the db?

I used the DFR7 updating s/w from here: Uniden DFR7
Then used the 19/07/04 DB mentioned above by Brainstorm69 and it updated just fine.
Running Win7 64 Pro
The RD powers up fine and shows the new DB....
Done or should I do a factory re-set?

Thanks MUCH All for Your patience and support here!!

Thanks, Doc. That's my experience with my 950 running DFR7 firmware. Friends are shocked how quiet it is, both on highway and in city. My terrain is not usually very difficult, so I get long detections on Ka 34.7, 35. 5, and K band. I don't get many 33.8 at all (City of Mountain Brook, Alabama is the most common), and that's usually in a super hilly area, but those just don't give me anywhere near the range of the others.

I'm traveling tomorrow to New Orleans with it, then Friday to Jackson, Mississippi and back to Birmingham on a rental car. Always nice to have a decent reliable windshield detector for that purpose (I rent cars a lot).

HI!
Sounds like You are going to roll a few miles over the next few days!
You'll have to let Us know how it goes and what kind of ride You end-up with...(Curious if the car You rent has enough BSM-type "spewage" to interfere with Your RD is why I ask) .
It has been AWHILE since I have been down in The SE....Back in 2001
I got an "itch" to kind of see The US and decided to ride Greyhound of all things!! I am the kind of Person who enjoys just watching people...sometimes I would get to kind of know a fellow traveler and as the hours and miles rolled by I would learn....sometimes about the other person and sometimes about the countryside We were passing thru.
If it was a slow day/evening, I would try to sit close to the driver and that was usually interesting.
Some of those drivers might have benefited from some CM's as They would just Hammer-down the big pusher-diesel, but it seemed that the LEO's left Us alone.
The drivers were always "safe", but They didn't dally between stops and I think LEO's understood the Greyhounds had serious ground to cover in order to stick to Their schedule.
Safe travels, Good Sir,
Doc

PS: At the Eastern end of My Greyhound ride I met ( For the 1st time) The Most Excellent Woman who became My Better-half in The Spring of 2001! One of The Best Things that has ever happened and I'm One Blessed Guy to be married to Her!
PSS: Sorry...didn't intend to turn this into a travelogue!

Lol. Very much enjoyed the travelogue.

I haven't had any issues with the Hertz cars I rent. Mostly intermediate, some compacts, occasional SUVs. I'll start making a note of the ones I use (I suspect I could recreate it through my account and post. If I think of it, I will).

All throughout the Fall I'll be traveling to Jackson, Mississippi, some to New Orleans, and several trips to LaGrange, Georgia (little town about an hour south of Atlanta). Have four Jackson trips planned, at least 3 LaGrange trips planned. Including December, at least 3 trips to New Orleans planned. So a lot of interstate and highway travel upcoming.

I did some testing last spring with a pretty solid speed sign (I know, not the best K source) but TSF did have a noticeable impact on K band detection of a constant on source, more so than city mode without TSF on. When I was living in Connecticut and K band was a huge rarity to me, I ran with it on in highway mode to quiet down some falses. Here in Massachusetts, I see so much K band that I have to turn it off and toggle between highway and city accordingly.

It's not like the R series where TSF can be used as a BSM hack and has a small(er) impact on performance

Interesting no one mentioned a laser detection performance of LRD950/DFR7 compare to R series.
I sold my LRD950 shortly after I bought new R3 and got my first ticket from LIDAR soon after that. R3 didn't make a single sound. And I actually never had any real laser detection in Dallas area with R3. Had LRD950 for more than two years and it had multiple laser detections in the same area.
