I wish it was like Edmonton, I could run counter measures. I will just have to keep enjoying this site and dreaming. ;)

Payback for the overly left Toronto residents. I don't mind this at all.

//watching them burn from the outside is fun, no? :)

Thanks for posting this. I missed it in the news and the option to vote this into law. Another thread says that the red light cameras out west are being converted and i heard some are lidar-based.

Nothing being converted in Edmonton AFAIK.
The Redlight cameras here are Mesta Fusion K band and MRCT.

There are some Lidar based boxes is St. Albert.
All the mobil photo MRCD are manned traps. Have to have an operator present to verify the hits.
Of course we also have Dragon Eye and Stalker Photo Lidar traps. There’s also manned normal Lidar traps.

This is all just in the city of Edmonton. Get outside the city limits them deal with Low powered Raptors and everything else known to man kind.

Calgary has Redflex but no MRCD.
Vancouver is starting a pilot project with RLC’s.

I think Toronto is one upping Edmonton, they are putting them in the "safety zones" with the super reduced speed limit and has double the fine.

Have to love the play ground zones till 9pm at -25C...

Edmonton (and provincial) construction zones are 2x the fine.

Edmonton school zones are now 30kmph, everyday until 9pm.

I was referring to having the photoradar in the double the speeding fine zones. Currently, I don't believe they enforce the playground zones with photoradar in Edmonton yet.

They most definitely do. I see them every day in “playground zones”.

Yup. I just got hit by Photo Dragon Eye Lidar. The guy was in a little blue Hyundai and sitting in the backseat shooting me as I went by on Tuesday.
Playground zone at 2:30 in the afternoon. I have it saved on the dash cam. I went through it twice just to get a better look.

The idea that people think they don't use photoradar in playground/school zones here in Edmonton is really funny to me.
(which is also really sad)

I guess the city has leased a bunch of Hyundai compacts then? The one I was hit by with DE was in a silver Hyundai.

Which part of the city is this? I have never seen any other than near schools.

Was this an exclusive playground zone or is a school nearby?

Should I take this as an insult or condescending?

I don't know how to interpret this article, how to do interpret this?: Photo radar rules at playgrounds won't change: city

Mine was in the east end of the city south east of Hardisty Pool.

There is a school there, but it’s across the field bordering the street 1 block over.

The trap was on the bus route. It just recently changed for some reason. For 20 years I’ve lived here, it’s always been the same and not classified as a playground or school zone until now.

I downloaded a filtered data set for 30 km/hr photo radar enforcement and went and look at all the locations they run it, which is all near schools, but does not have any ATE for parks/playgrounds without them.

Here is the data I used:
