I think of myself as a pretty conservative driver, but often find myself at +11-20. Most of the roadways just seem to be perfectly suited for that or more.

Last week I had the opportunity to drive from Birmingham, Alabama to LaGrange Georgia, spend the night, and then had an 832 mile trip the next day assisted of driving from Georgia to Montgomery through Mobile and in to New Orleans, and back the same day. The best of my memory, that is my record for a one-day trip, and it was made even more difficult with 2 passengers who needed to stop multiple times for things like rest stops, stops at a drugstore for an umbrella, stops at a drugstore for a stapler and paper clips, and of course food breaks and gas stops. Needless to say, I was exposed on the interstates (I-85, I-65, and I-10) and was in a hurry come especially on the way back.

Boring story, but my old faithful Uniden LRD 950 running DFR7 firmware performed flawlessly, identifying Ka 34.7, 35.5, and K-band in numerous locations. I did not see any LIDAR or any 33.8 (which is the weak point in my detector anyway; I drop anchor immediately if I see that alert). It is not an elite detector, but it is a very solid performer. With my wife and daughter in the car, my driving habits lend themselves perfectly suited to this device, which was outstanding in being super-quiet, while still providing plenty of lead time on the occasions when I needed it, since I probably drive even more conservatively with them in the car (my wife likes the "over limit" chime I have at 85. I curse it, but I like having a relatively happy wife.)

Friendly advice I should've taken myself--CHECK YOUR SD CARD BEFORE your trips. I screwed up the formatting on the one and only SD card I had, so I had no video. There was a nearly 100 mile stretch of near-blinding rain off the Mississippi Gulf Coast where I was thinking I sure would like to have video of this from my dash cam in case somebody hits me in this and I hit the car in front of me, etc. I was also driving a rental car (I do that almost always if I'm going to drive a lot of miles in a short time frame.) and I like to have video in case anything comes up.

Anyway, sorry for the boring story. All of that was to say, the 950/DFR7 still works for a lot of threats, and everybody should check their SD card (and equipment) before needing it. I didn't do that, and thankfully, I had no issues--but I could've.

We like "boring" stories !
Keep them coming.
You're kind.

I'll be making 500 mile round trips at least six times this fall (beginning this weekend) and multiple 300 mile round trips (visiting kids in college playing sports and at a performing arts program, musical theatre). And I have a daughter planning her wedding a 400 mile round trip away, so I will have a bunch of interstate time coming up soon.

I'll have the dash cam up and running next time. Hope I do not have anything terribly exciting, though ;).
