Today was the day I though about my long vacation trip, and read the horror stories of I-87 Northway in the Adirondacks of upstate NY here on the forum. I got to thinkin'...Would an R7 work okay with BSM (or lack of) on those long lonely stretches of the Northway? Or any other open interstate with little traffic?? Maybe switch to the R7 for those lonesome runs??? After looking over all the latest reports, I decided to GO FOR IT. Went to Best Buy, and the one I spotted a month ago was still there. Done!

I set it up in no time, and did the firmware update in the parking lot. Reviewed all the settings, used some of @Vortex recommended settings, set my custom arrow colors and band sounds (love that custom stuff) and went for a long drive out to Scranton, PA and back. Pretty quiet. Not nearly as much BSM as I expected. And earlier in the afternoon no LEO encounters. :( Absolutely no Ka action until I hit the speed signs on I-84 in the PA construction zones. Ah...good! At least I know Ka works. Did a U-Turn and head back before dark. Thought about those Ka speed signs taking priority over K band, and knowing PASP uses K band I decided to lock those speed signs out (yes, I allowed Ka band lockouts just for these type of speed signs). But pretty uneventful on the way out.

Once it got dark, the action started. One pulled over on the opposite side in PA, but as soon as I got into NY the detector paid for itself. Doing 20 over most of the way, I had two hidden in the dark encounters that alerted me well in advance, and the arrows told me exactly where they were...even though I couldn't see them in the dark. Nice!

Feeling good about all that, I took Route 9 North to test "well known" door openers and set some lockouts. I like the way the lockouts show in gray when you pass them. And I really like Display 2 Mode, and Dark Mode is very cool. Even the gray locked-out radar encounters wake the screen up to show what you have locked out. My impression of K and X band range was not much different than my MAX II or MAX 360. Ka range? Too early to tell yet. I need many more day encounters to see how far range is to the kill zone, but do believe it will be as good as all range test reports. That's why I got it, right?

So I'm on the final approach to my home area on Rt 9 about to hit the 40 to 55 area in the City of Poughkeepsie (just over the line) where everyone floors it. It's like they can't wait to just get out of the drudgery of that SLOW area to hit the gas. I did my part by quickly engaging the electric torque of my Hybrid when all of the sudden I get hit with, "Front laser...LTI Tru Cam" . I hit the breaks as soon as the alert goes off and JTK when somewhere around 55. Then Waze alerts "Police Ahead"...sure enough...he was. Off sideways in the grass and has a black car with white markings and his parking lights on. Bastid! That som b!tch must have been monitoring the device about a tenth of a mile ahead of him.

So I didn't recognize the gun and turned around to have another go at it. Same spot and I definitely hear it right. LTI TruCam. That time I was only 3 over.

I guess you never know when and where you will get tagged with LIDAR. All the high speed interstate driving I do, I never got tagged with LIDAR. Here locally I did. Go figure! The R7 was/is great, but my TMG save was the bonus of the day. ;)

Gotta love it! Saw some action without paying admission! Other than the cost of the R7!

Did your R7 alert to the lidar too or was it just your TMGs? Uniden detectors are pretty horrible on laser detection.

Nice!. Did you happen to see if there was a third lense on the side of the front of the gun?...you got hit with either a Truspeed Lr or TruCam ...it would be interesting to see if they are using TruCams up there?!. I frequent that area pretty often..nice either way!

Hi TP6.2.

It was dark, so even though I was looking for the TruCam, I didn't get an eye on it. This section of highway is quite busy, and there is a bit of infrastructure on the side of the road when you come down the hill to the 55 MPH sign, then lots of short brush. So I looked in daylight to see where everything might have been the night before. I saw where the police car was, but that was kind of far from where I was hit. I don't think he had a clear line of sight from his car. No knowing what this gun looks like, I don't know if there was another shooter, or it was a fixed setup. But it did hit me at the same exact spot both times, and that car was tucked in on the side of a hill that would not be easy to get out in high traffic to do chase. Clearly they were trying to bag people going 55 in the end of the 40 zone before the 55 speed sign. Dirty trick!

So I believe it was a Town of Poughkeepsie car. This changes my behavior in my work car, which doesn't have TMG's...yet. It's time to rethink that. ;)

No, because I turn off RD laser detection when I run jammers. Too many false laser detections. My TMG's filter all the garbage out.
