Posting my introduction. Used a two Valentine 1's for about 15 years. Just moved to the Uniden R7.
You will fit in just fine here. Welcome to RDF

Oh and you might as well give me your credit card, you will save more that way.

Thanks all. So far the R7 seems awfully noisy... In addition to nonstop BSM falses, quiet ride still sounds an initial alert before muting, which kind of defeats the purpose.

Post your settings, and we can help you get dialed in. The R7 isn't turn key due to BSM, but can be toned down. What speed do you have quiet ride set to?

PS- I'm in central Florida. Speed enforcement is pretty lax compared to other places I've lived, presumably because they don't want to anger the tourists. Only recall seeing Ka in use, other than a few random K speed signs.

I'm using the "General Recommended Uniden R7 Settings" from vortexradar, with any tweaks to err on the side of being quieter. Quiet ride is set to 20 mph, but under that it still gives me an initial BSM and parking lot door sensor alert before muting (and the major reason for the upgrade from V1 was to get the GPS based muting!).

Welcome to RDF! The R7 is a great detector. While it’s not possible to keep it 100% quiet to false alerts, it can be tamed to be more quiet than not. The initial alert you’re hearing before the gps features kick in are by design to make you aware there is a signal present. Some like this, some don’t, but it can’t be changed. An option to have complete silence would be nice though for people who prefer it. If you’re using the recommended settings provided by Vortex, that means you have K band sensitivity set to 50%. Try lowering it to 40% and see if that helps, then go to 30% if you’re still not satisfied. With the extreme sensitivity of the R7, it can provide adequate detections even with K band set to lower sensitivities if conditions allow for it. If you drive in areas with lots of curves, hills, and foliage, I wouldn’t set the sensitivity too low though as you’ll want the extreme sensitivity in those situations.
