If my wife's R3 kicks the bucket (it's having speaker issues at the moment...Uniden fix is $90 by sending it back to Uniden...cheap but still something to consider) what should I get:
1)Fix it via Uniden
2) Get R7
3) Wait on Radenso

Buy another. It's probably a rare occurence and won't happen again. Or, get the R7. It's much more expensive, it must be better. Musn't it?

Cheap option? Open it up and see if you can feasibly replace the speaker yourself. Or even connect an external speaker to the headphone jack.

Next best? Send it to Uniden.

Most ulcer-inducing? Wait to see what Radenso comes out with, but you could be waiting a a good while.

X2 external speaker or aux input into your car stereo. Not the best choice but works.

I'd try to fix it myself, or send it back to Uniden, like @Deacon said.

Honestly, if it's for your wife and she doesn't want/need arrows then I would recommend the Pro-M hands down.

It is, but I was selflishly hoping to use this an excuse in order to get an upgrade. But yeah the most logical option is AUX, or self fix followed by Uniden fix.

Get it fixed. It's still such a great RD. Of course there is little logic to being an enthusiast so whatever makes you happy otherwise is not worth the cost.

Although the jokes are plenty here about V1 I have one thing to say about V1s, they are the Nokias of detectors, durable enough to brake your window should you fall into a lake and once you get the detector back from the bottom of the lake it will probably fire right up (as soon as it dries up a bit I suppose)

Honestly all these quality issues are a nasty stain on otherwise perfect Uniden score (sans laser detection) .

Reliability is everything in a detector. If it doesn't warn you, it's useless.

Fix the R3, sell it and use the money to go towards an upgrade.
