Mike is still running the same old outdated ads in the "Car & Track" print magazines. Why advertise when you got nothing to sell? I saw one in the doctor's office while waiting for my annual physical.
He doesn't want to lose those ad pages since someone else will jump on them and never give it up

Just a few notes to make as a newer member and 12 year V1 owner.

1) These threads are ridiculous. Hate me if you want.

2) I'm probably their "typical", "middle of the bell curve" customer. I wouldn't call myself an enthusiast as some members on here are, but I like to be covered and know what's going on around me.

3) My V1 is updated to newest firmware and I just installed JBV1 to make a 2hr road trip in FL. Props to John, that is an amazing piece of software.

Unfortunately for the V1, I'm not going to deal with connecting my phone and firing up the app every time I hop in my car for a quick trip, I.e. going to work. (Again, the app is incredible).

3a) I wanted another V1 for my new second car, but alas, they've been out of stock. That's when I found this site and learned about the R7. I found a used V1 on CL, and called with the serial number since the web lookup is "down". They informed me it would be more costly than a new unit to upgrade it at the $200 asking price.

Ok, fine I appreciate that. When can I get a new one? Well, sign up for our list (already done). We got confirmation that the parts shipped a month ago from China. Wonderful.

I've ordered multiple things on eBay from China, most recently a very specific computer fan that got to me in less than 2 weeks. I've bought very specific ICs from China: 2 weeks max for econo-shipping.

3b) This device has been out of stock for months. No company interested in making money / existing in their right mind would be unable to sell their product for such a long time.

3c) Usually, R&D for a new product occurs simultaneously with production until a new model is released. Other than that, parts and tooling are maintained throughout production to keep product flowing and cash flow rolling in.

Obviously one of those failed in this instance. The treatment of this company with R&D as though it is akin to the CIA is beyond me. All business and marketing sense says that if you are developing a new product, you market that new product in the lead up to it's launch to drive sales. Do you have to give specific details? No. But wtf, there is zero indication to me as a customer who has been waiting patiently for months that this is going to be any different / improved over the same product they've been selling for 12 years.

4) At this point, they have 1 week before I'm jumping ship, spending a couple hundred more, and buying an R7. Period. (At least I can upgrade that one myself!)

By God, V1, if you are reading this please, for the sake of your customers, please give us something credible to go on. I just want a radar detector...

Totally share your frustration. I've been running a long-in-the-tooth V1 for 16 years. Went to upgrade and "Our UPGRADE program for serial-number XXXXXXXXXX is temporarily unavailable. When the program resumes, it will be announced here." After waiting a few months, my patience finally wore out and yesterday, I picked up an R7.

JBV1 can be set up to connect automatically to the V1 Bluetooth dongle and open and then close the app. JBV1 can even open VVaze, close it, and even enter split screen mode with JBV1 & VVaze on screen at the same time.

But, it's going to be "two weeks"...

So, you did enjoy JBV1? What sweeps did you settle on? Did you use the live map? Weather radar? How do you like the new alert bars?

Man I'll tell you I barely scratched the surface with all that stuff. I'm such a noob with it I couldn't figure out how to get the alerts to show in the app until after I got there and googled it. I did drive with VVaze on instead and had the JBV1 overlay on it. Was so cool to see the frequencies.

What are the different concentric rings on the JBV1 map?

Here's the other problem I have. I drive a BMW and have the "StealthOne" installed to get the V1 to show on my instrument cluster. With that older device installed, I can't use ESP with the Bluetooth unless I unhook the StealthOne, which is what I did today to use JBV1. So it's either or for me, unless I do some trickery with an Arduino. A semi-moot point anyway though if I get an R7.

Do you guys leave JBV1 open and get the CSAs in that or run the mapping app with JBV1 overlay in that?

I have not done anything with sweeps or any of that. I still don't fully get the point of the sweeps and don't know what frequencies are important. I have to read more.

Those are distances in miles from your location. The nearest two are 0.5 miles and 0.25 miles I believe.

That's a shame. I've always admired the "StealthOne" design and wish they could have continued. As you know, any pre-ESP device will cause the data stream to fall back to legacy mode. (< Said for the benefit of those that don't know why.)

Do you guys leave JBV1 open and get the CSAs in that or run the mapping app with JBV1 overlay in that?
I have done both. I enjoy having VVaze on my car's screen and being able to see all of JBV1 on my phone in landscape mode in both the live map and live weather map modes. I used to run it all on just my phone and had the overlay on VVaze.
For really short trips I'll still just throw the phone on the dash magnet and let it start automatically and then it will start VVaze for me too on the phone.

I have not done anything with sweeps or any of that. I still don't fully get the point of the sweeps and don't know what frequencies are important. I have to read more.
As is being discussed right now in another thread; sweeps are simply values on a number line that represent ranges of frequencies that you want to scan. in eUro mode the V1 will already scan 33.675 to 33.925 to cover the 33.8 guns.

The typical remainders are 34.600 to 34.800 (plus and minus extra for out-of-tune equipment) for 34.7 guns and 35.400 to 35.600 (plus and minus extra again) for 35.5 guns.
Certain areas require extra sweeps or at least wider sweeps.

You can run without the sweeps of course, but the downside is slightly more falses from other 33.400 to 36.000 equipment. :)

Regarding your comment about giving VR another week: I don't think you are going to see anything within the next week. The "two weeks" joke has already been around for over 3 weeks.

You could go ahead and try out an R7 now and decide if it's right for you. Sadly, they have nothing like StealthOne or even a concealed display to go with it.

How do you like it? I liked my R3 but lots of speaker issues came up on RDF and scared me off and returned it. And said I’d wait on the upgraded V1 which I likely will wait but just curious how you like the R7.

So far, so good. I’m using it on my motorcycle and my one major challenge is getting the audio into my Bluetooth headset (Cardo Packtalk Bold). It’s already a Bluetooth jungle on my bike with my iPhone, GPS, digital dash, and headset. Now I’m trying to find a way to add another BT device to the mix to get the R7 alerts into my helmet. Long email sent to Cardo Systems for help there.

The R7 is impressive with how it can be extensively customized. I’ve been using its Dark Mode so that when the display lights up, it gets my attention. Really like the info available right on the unit. If Valentiine One resurfaces, I’ll likely move the R7 to my car, upgrade my 16 year old V1 and try linking to V1Driver as a way to get audio into my helmet.

We'll all chip in to buy you an airline ticket to the States.
I think I might just go to Italy. The cops there don't give a damn about speeders, and it's close to the autobahns. It'll be a change not needing CM's.
Plus, I'm a citizen.

I mean I'm not going to die without it or anything, I've been doing fine with the V1 thus far. Between my wife and I, it's one V1 for 3 cars, and I'm getting tired of the juggling. We have a lot of driving coming up for the next month starting next weekend. And I've been waiting for months for V1.

Here's the problem and the root of my frustration I guess...I really would like another V1, but I don't want one if it's going to be the same unit. And unfortunately, there is nothing to tell me if I am wasting my time waiting (and I would wait if I knew it was going to be new/better). Every other day there's a post on here saying something new is coming, but V1 hasn't so much as changed their website in 15 years let alone talk at all about a new product upcoming.

imagine if Apple or Samsung did that LOL

The StealthOne is fantastic and I love it. Auto mutes under my set speed, lets me mute the V1 with my steering wheel, and shows all the info on my cluster and/or nav display. And that thing has been baking up in my headliner for years without an issue.

I think V1 is great how they make the API available to 3rd party developers, and I wish I had time to work on that stuff myself. That's slightly another reason why I've been patiently (until now) waiting for V1 again, in hopes that maybe something better comes out and maintains legacy compatibility.

Thanks for the info on the sweeps! I always figured people messed with those to reduce scan or processing time, but I see it's a way to also filter. Is there a spreadsheet somewhere that lists all the guns and their frequencies?

I don't want to buy one, or get an upgrade, so having no no stock is a moot question.
The question was predicated on sustaining the business........."who else could survive this?"

So it's far from a moot point. If all of VR's existing customers were like you and had zero interest in buying a new model or upgrading.......well, he'd be in deep doo doo going forward wouldn't he?

Thankfully he has the rest of us looking for progress and eager to place orders.;)

That's in tune with this thread by the way...…..V1 WILL be updated.

We should start another thread for please dear God don't let them change the V1! See how many posts that gets.

Assuming VR isn’t shutting their doors, I wonder what kind of backlog we’re looking at when sales resume? (No two week jokes please)
There’s got to be a pretty lengthy list at this point, and not just us junkies.
They may wait to lift the ‘out of stock’ until some of the backlog clears first.

I think that depends entirely on whether they've made any improvements. If it's just the same as it was before all of this, the backlog will certainly be considerably smaller.

After six months...…..I think it could be a very healthy backlog. The day they plug back in the Open for Business sign, the question will immediately flip to "how soon until MY order ships"? I'll respect your request for no jokes on that one. That will be another thread.

Edit: On the other hand. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that production may have already resumed and they are busy building with the intent of mass shipments on a particular release date. It's going to be different to some degree and quality control a big concern........I'm sure Mike will take his time to qualify the new parts inside the updated (or new) version to maintain quality standards. I don't expect this to be like other releases where they rush to slap things together and ship half baked products for the customer to deal with at a later time.
