I’m right up the road from VR maybe I should stop in and see what’s going on. Go full James Bond with hidden camera sunglasses and see what info I can get.
Take a peak inside the Porsche Panamera and look for the V1. Anything different about it?

I wish we could get a UAV hovering the office for inbound truck deliveries... or a P.I. parked near by... just something from VR to indicate things are moving forward. Toss us a bone VR.

Mike is still running the same old outdated ads in the "Car & Track" print magazines. Why advertise when you got nothing to sell? I saw one in the doctor's office while waiting for my annual physical.
Ads are purchased much cheaper in long term blocks. If they are paid for, you keep running them.

Yes! I had suspected that. But considering that if someone responds to the ad by trying to purchase the product it will only result in long term disappointment, and considering that Valentine Research has been a full page advertiser for a quarter of a century, I thought they might ask the publications to temporarily suspend running the ads until it was close to the expected shipping date.

I heard you can cancel them if you give the magazine two weeks notice.

Honestly, I'll be glad when this sh!t is over with. I wish VR would get its sh!t together and tell us what's going on so we can stop this thread before another 2 weeks passes by.
I can’t imagine they enjoy being badgered by calls and emails. I wouldn’t. Just having “temporarily out of stock” on the web for months just feeds into confusion- or maybe this is exactly what they want. Putting a little more info on the web would cut down on calls.

Has anyone received any emails from siging up for VR's newsletter? I haven't unless I've missed something.

Yes I’m on the Email List. All I received was the Monthly rah rah letter about how Arrows and Bogey Counter are good with a Users story attached. No product or company news.

I think each time “in ...” was said. They knew they weren’t going to deliver.
VR is going on 6 months of delay. A delay of that long isn’t a minor set back.
I’m sure they know the exact reason for the delay and it’s not small
That's an interesting opinion, but doesn't that say more about your negative perception of the world (< not judging, just a shortcut for conversation sake) than what actually is realistic and feasible from a company that has existed for roughly 30 years? Occam's razor would suggest that they told callers what they believed to be reasonable at the time. The increased frustration in later conversations would support that they are aware that it has taken much longer than they expected.

The mixed messaging is what is frustrating. The goalposts have shifted numerous times and depending on the rep you can get either no changes, minor tweaks, revamped display or something else. It's really all over the place and for someone looking to but a unit or get a hardware upgrade or fix it's not great.

Radenso's message is that they are not giving out info on their new model ahead of any solid release date. It been consistent all along and people are fine with it even though it lacks any specifics they avoided what happened to uniden with the R7 being leaked and rushed to market. Sometimes no info is better than bad info. Then again they are not without their entire product line for half a year. In that case they would need a different message but I think they would manage it differently than Valentine.
I would agree that VR could handle this situation better. A standard statement should be prepared for the ladies answering the phones that is consistent, free of personal opinion, and helpful within the constraints of the situation to the potential customer that calls. I suspect that the ladies answering don't have as much of a grasp of the technical details as we here do. Also, I suspect that if we knew the actual details of what has caused the delays, we could believe what had transpired. In every situation, there is a true chain of events to be learned even if we the public don't learn it.

I’m right up the road from VR maybe I should stop in and see what’s going on. Go full James Bond with hidden camera sunglasses and see what info I can get.
You could carry your 3.863 V1 in with you and ask about the upgrade process.
You might see things that would give you a different impression than what a person on the phone would get. The number of people in the room, the way that they speak, and their micro-expressions and body language. Lots of observations could be made.

After that, you could come here and report what you'd seen and have a portion of the RDF membership call you a liar and hold you personally responsible for what VR says! Yay!... :eyebrow:

I think one thing most people can agree on is that regardless of what’s waiting for us when new units are available again, upgraded or not, VR did not anticipate it being anywhere near what it’s been now. Whether they were strung along by their supplier(s), or if trade wars came into play, or if they changed tack on strategy, whatever it all is, if they had known it was going to be this way since April, then they would’ve approached things differently to start with. Hindsight is sometimes 20/20 :)

AFAIK, you can't learn much by walking in the door. I did that once, about 8 or 9 years ago. Mike just happened to be talking to a friend about his own age in the small, unpretentious lobby. The friend left in one of the two Panarmeras in the parking area. I dropped off my V1 for a long overdue update, shook Mike's hand and introduced myself as a long term V1 user, and left.

Who else could survive this and maintain such a faithful following to shirk it off as completely acceptable?

Nobody. Nobody but Michael D. Valentine. Love him or hate him he's the Godfather of RDs and you can't deny it.

I'm done playing the indignant patron who's been mal treated. Time to acknowledge I'm just another microwave addict waiting for my next fix.
I agree with you that MV is Is Godfather of radar detectors. His products from the Cincinnati Microwave years and the Valentine Research era have helped keep my driving record clean for decades. I hold no grudges regarding this “temporarily out of stock” situation. I just would like to get a new V1 (hopefully updated with some performance improvements).

^^^^^ I definitely agree with your perspective.

It definitely appears to have taken longer than they expected, and I agree they could have handled the situation better. If there are any significant improvements or updates to the V1, then it will definitely be worth the wait for me. I have other radar detectors to use. If it is the exact same V1 prior to going out of stock with no performance improvements, then it is what it is. I am just ready (as many others are) to have this “temporarily out of stock” story come to an end. I am sure MV does too.

Two Weeks is eternal. There is no beginning. There is no end.
