There was an Alberta Sheriff off the QE2 by Balzac. I was driving right by him seeing the gun in his hand as he was pick up anyone that was driving by.
Point is that my r3 was silent.
Just wondering if alberta law enforcement has a new laser unit that the r3 can’t detect?
Cheers

The R3 is terrible at detecting laser anyway even against current guns and is in a poor location to do so on top of it

If it can't detect it, then it is most likely a dragon eye or a Stalker XLR, the R3 and R7 has trouble detecting laser from VPR guns

Ok, that was the answer I’m looking for.
When they catch us with laser going over the limit it’s too late anyway

Thanks

Yeah I ran a test and it detected the TSS (true speed compact) and the TSLR(True speed long range) from a fair distance and consintantly 6 out of 6 times, XLR was 0 out of 3 and dragon eye was 1 out of 3 with the one time being really short and not all the way through.

I am runnign another test at the end of this month to see more detection on more guns on the R7

It could be dragoneye. But at the same time. Like others said the r3 actually uniden sucks for laser

I had lrd950. It wouldn’t surprise me that the r3 and r7 uses the same parts. In 2 years. I went by dozens of laser traps. It alerted only once and I got nailed. I can say the killzone was probably 400m away. And that’s the only reason why it alerted And yes there was car in front of me as a rabbit. I thought I was safe when the car got pulled in. But I got waved in as well.

I wouldn’t trust the uniden at all for laser detection.

What Venom690 posts is true.

Basically all radar detectors are pretty bad at it and we call them ticket notifiers. Some get lucky but that’s what it is. Luck.

As a general rule if thumb, the scatter around the point of the laser hit @ 1000’ is around a 3’ circle. So 18” at 500’.

They’re not shooting at your window. They’re shooting at your headlights or center mass.

VPR ( Variable Pulse ) guns are even harder.

Seems only good for Ka band. Doesn’t detect low K band Photoradar in time, only wenn it’s too late

Sounds like you might want to look into some ALP laser protection.

In the last 2 weeks, I've had 4 laser detections between my R3 and R7. No idea if I've been hit more often, but these I know of.

I wish Uniden would update the firmware to give what brand of laser gun was doing the shooting..

when the real threat 95% of the times (at least where I live) is KA band, more often than not 34.7 I am ok with it being awesome at KA.

K band is not bad neither, in @Brainstorm69 tests even at 40% K band it did better than the V1 and Escort 360c.

It does detect photo radar , just not as good as the Radenso ones, and I am sure they are working on a fix as we speak, the R7 was made with MRCD in mind, I doubt they won't fix it in the next firmware or two.

and Laser.. well , what can you do, at least I am confident it can see laser, because it did so well against the TSS and TLR , but maybe in a future update they will fix the VPR detection, would I want to ? now that I have jammers I am not sure, as long as it does not cause it to false all the time like the V1 and the 360c.

If your on the R3, roll back to 1.46.

The R7, your kind of in a holding pattern for now. They’re working on it, but I’m not sure if it distorted something else. I haven’t asked.

I need to do some updates tests against an easier trap than the last one.

It was eye opening, but it’s hard to see if they went the right way when you can’t get an alert.

I’d keep wishing. There’s not enough memory for Auto lockouts on the R3.

The R7? I’m not hopeful there either. The Attowave engineers in South Korea have their hands full with what they’re doing now.

It’s marketing pure and simple when it comes to Lidar stuff.

Passed a mountie in Yoho National park yesterday driving home from Kelowna. She was spinning around (standing beside her car) in circles getting cars coming from both directions with laser. My R7 didn't chirp once for laser.

I have not had one laser alert on my R7 since getting it. However, I mount my detector high up (behind sun visor) and know that detectors aren't meant for laser.

I can live with not knowing I'm being hit by laser, because it's usually too late anyway AND this thing is a beast in other departments. I really need a dash cam because words can't describe the detection I got from it yesterday. Driving northbound on 97 towards Vernon, BC, I started getting short bursts of Ka. Those unfamiliar, that section of highway isn't straight and level for more than 500 feet (Up/down, left/right between hills). I slowed down, pulled into the right lane and let a few unfortunate (they got the flashing lights) cars pass. I'm trying to get better at looking at my odometer when I get alerts, but I missed it this time around. However, time wise, a good 3-4 minutes passed before I came to the RCMP sitting behind a billboard on the crest of a hill. So I'm going to guess 4-6 KM alert distance in very challenging terrain.

Side note: The Kelowna area sucks for K band... 80% of the legitimate alerts I got while there all week were K band.
