I have both or these detectors and both set up with Ka segmentation they seem comparable in range. Has anyone done a side by side test between these two?

Yes I have! And most of you won't like the answer or believe it! @VariableWave and I set up a fairly tough course at my work place and ran my R1's, his R3's our V1's Whistlers, and his new R7. Both of our Redlines won! We then tested my "Ghetto Arrows " set up with my R1 up front and my Redline-O in the back and my R1 matched his R7 from the front and my Redline beat his R7 from the rear! It's not hard to figure out why. The R7 is mounted up front and has to scan the whole car and then out the back glass while the Redline is mounted all the way in the back! Don't let anyone kid you, those ole' Redline-O's set up right are monsters! These tests were run against 35.5.

Non technical testing, I ‘feel’ like my R7 is up there with the king. BUT if it weren’t for the K problem, I would go back to it in a heartbeat and sell the R7 without hesitation. Arrows are great, but my Redline is at least 7 years old. If the R7 lasts that long I will be very surprised.

My old RL could hold its own vs R3

Here are the vids - RL probably was taking a beating from the leaky R3...

Plus the laser sensitivity in the redline is waaaaaay better than the uniden. It actually has a chance of picking up scatter unlike in the uniden.

I REALLY loved that RedLine. But the area's I travel I have a LOT of K band, thereby rendering it in effective. I wish Escort would go back to the design of the Redline O and update the memory and BSM filtering.

I really miss that beast.

But, I can say that the RL O I had went to a good home.

Thanks for the input guys. I have the Redline in my car and the R7 on my motorcycle. Making the same commute in either vehicle, their performance seems pretty close. The K band falsing is so bad on the RL though, that I just turn k band off. I’ve had the Redline since shortly after they came out. This summer on a motorcycle trip it started working intermittently on Ka band, sometimes not alerting at all or only at very short range. My riding buddy uses a V1, not sure of the vintage, but my Redline almost always lit up before his V1. Since we have helmet comms we can report hits to each other, so I had that comparison on this trip and knew my RL was sick.
I had Escort perform their $139 premium service. They found a bad solder joint, replaced a circuit board, the entire housing and both front and rear lenses. It looks brand new! They also upgraded the firmware to allow Ka segmentation and threw in a new power cable and mount. Quite a good deal I think.

Your being in CA makes the Redline O a viable option for you.

It still has a lot of @ss left to kick! It's on a perm Ebay mount and hardwired in the back of my Boss 302 on ghetto arrows duty! I run it segged to 2-5-8 with RDR and everything else off! It's a monster back there and doesn't make a peep till some Ka band pops up from behind! It makes the perfect set up with my R1 up front!

On occasion, I still run my Redline-O in CA on 34.7.

It’s right up there with my R1 and NR/DSP.

I own 4 R1's and 2 Redline-O's. I love them all and use them every day depending on which car we drive. My drive to work car, a 99 Mustang has a "ghetto arrows"setup as does my Boss 302 with the R1 in the front and Redline-O in the back. Jane has my other R1 in her Mustang. What we've found so far is that the R1's are a touch better at 34.7 while the Redlines are a touch better at 35.5. It's so close however I'd call it a wash.

The R7 is more sensitive than the Redline-O. But you will only see that difference occasionally.

Didn't do side by side but have had the R-0 almost since it first came out but did send it in to get the segmentation added. Overall just on Ka I felt it was better on Ka then the R1/R3 but the R7, at least in my opinion after a couple months or so equals and often exceeds the R-0 would do on Ka (mostly 34.7) but that's based on many years of using the Redline daily and having a good feeling for how it would have performed in the same situations I am seeing with the R7. Also now I finally am running K band again with very few falses.

Also since I bought the R-0 years back I have purchased the Max 360, Radenso Pro SE, V1, R1 and R3. Every time I went back to the R-0. I do feel like some range was picked up on the R7. Would like to be able to adjust the rear sensitivity as its very high and even as much as I like the R7 the R-0 is one I will hold onto regardless. Terrain is tough in my area along with a fair amount of IO so the over the hill around the a corner ability to pick up is my first priority over everything else.

I've gone back to running my original Redline while the R3 is being repaired by Uniden. I've got K band off, but it's still better than nothing, and after 2+ years of running the R3, my personal experience is the Redline is still GOAT on Ka. Off-axis is slightly better than the R3, IMO, and range is indistinguishable.

Still, can't wait to get the Uniden back up and not stress about missing K shots.

Woops, shouldn't have posted. OP asked for comparison to R7. Sorry. A little rusty after the heart attack.

Thanks, Brainstorm! I've mostly recovered. Ironically, I had to change my role at work and am now driving a lot more, so the silver lining is that I get to test my RDs in many more environments.

The test results are pretty consistent on Ka that the Redline has less sensitivity.

It's always a good idea to look at the test results themselves and also the specific test circumstances/characteristics to help get a picture of the strengths and weaknesses of detectors.
