So I was driving home as normal, using Waze in the foreground and JBV1 in the background. Phone was Bluetooth connected to the car, as usual, but I wasn't streaming from it or making a call. I was listening to local FM radio.

Halfway home, I close Waze and bring up Google Maps because Waze steered me into standstill traffic.

I cross into one of my override areas and didn't hear JBV1 announce the override being activated. I mentally shrugged. Then I crossed over into a different county and didn't hear the county change announcement.

I was approaching a marked pothole and noticed that JBV1 never announced it with an audio alert, nor put up an overlay alert. I switched to the alert map and noticed the same thing happen at another marked pothole.

A little bit later, I heard my V1 beeping (I have the volume turned down, but not completely muted) but nothing is showing or being announced on JBV1. I pass a cop on the side of the road.

As I'm backing into my driveway, all of the sudden JBV1 "wakes up" and starts to rattle off 45 minutes of alerts, county changes, override activations, etc at high speed. I checked the log and the cop on the side of the road was running K-band (it was a whitelisted alert).

The only things I could think of is (a) changing from Waze to Google Maps in mid-drive and (b) JBV1 seemed to wake up when my phone connected to the house wifi. I have NOT restarted my phone and the drive to work today was uneventful with JBV1 appearing to work normally.

When you say it "rattled off" a bunch of alerts and other things, do you mean just announcements, just announcements and alert sounds, or was there on-screen activity as well as the audio activity?

Also, were any logged alerts logged with correct time and location?

Just read text. No alert sounds or on-screen activity.

No. Nothing at all was logged for my drive home, not even the known falses that are locked out. The last thing logged was stuff during the morning commute in.

It sounds to me like there was an issue with the TTS engine. Speech (announcements) are the only activities that get queued, and they're queued not by JBV1 but by the TTS engine itself. It could also have blocked one or more threads. The fact that it "unwound" when you got to your driveway may indicate it was blocked by the need to download some voice data, and Wi-Fi only is checked in TTS voice data settings. Do you use an alternate voice in Waze, or in device TTS settings?

I have "English (US) - Jane" selected in Waze.
"Default (English)" is selected in Google Maps.

Even though "Default" is selected in Google Maps, I notice there is a definite difference between the voice Google Maps uses, and the TTS voice that JBV1 uses. The TTS engine I'm using is the Google one. "Use Wi-Fi only" is selected.

Have you switched from Waze to Maps many times before with no apparent issues? I'll try to play around with that to see if I can produce an issue. Meanwhile, you might try disabling the Wi-Fi only option in TTS voice data. If it should happen again, as soon as you can, go to dev options on JBV1 and do the logcat option at bottom of that screen.

I can't remember the last time I've switched mid-trip while in transit. Only reason I did it yesterday was because I was annoyed that Waze directed me into traffic.

I had an experience yesterday that may be somewhat related. First, I should say that a couple of days ago I turned off Wi-Fi on my phone to conserve the battery.

So, yesterday when I started the car I didn't get the normal voice announcement confirming JBV1 was connected. Later, when I received a K band alert there was no voice announcement. In fact, I received no voice announcements (but several alerts) for the 30 mile round trip yesterday.

Once home, I looked through my settings to see what I had messed up. I modified a few things with the individual announcement settings by band but nothing worked. (I used Demo mode to check.) After trying everything I could think of I recalled I had turned off Wi-Fi and switched it back on. Announcements immediately started working again. I turned Wi-Fi back off and announcements continued to work. I checked my text to speech settings and realized "Download voices data using only Wi-Fi" was selected. The moral of my story: Don't use Wi-Fi only for TTS voice data.

It may be as simple as downloading the voice data manually so that it never has to download bits of it on the fly. Regardless, the next release moves TTS calls out of the alert thread, in case TTS ever blocks.

I've had the same issue before. I pull in my driveway and suddenly get 15 alerts from a road I passed 2 miles back.

Yeah, but you haven't received CSA alerts from 30+ miles away, in an entirely different state, have you??? :)

(It's not a JBV1 bug, I'm convinced it's a location-provider thing and it's picking up the incorrect location based on a duplicate Cell Tower ID....but I consistently get them whenever I hit that mile marker on that hwy! Or it's daze...because JBV1 never announces a state change...hmm...)
