Location: Ohio
Expressway: 3 lanes in each direction; PSL is 60 mph.
Leo: Sitting in patrol car with windows up; parked near on-ramp.
Traffic: Fairly heavy, but not rush hour yet.
Me: Traveling in left-hand lane going about 72 mph. R7 with FW 124.124.111.
Settings
• Mode: Highway
• X,K, Ka-Band: On
• Laser: On
• K Pop, Ka Pop, MRCD, TSF: Off
• K, Ka Filter: On
• K Block: On
• K, Ka Band: Narrow

The Encounter: Was behind a blue car which was traveling about 75-78 mph. I visually saw the Leo parked and slowed down to about 62 MPH. Passed by the Leo and kept my speed at about 62 mph. Was well past the Leo when I checked my rearview mirror and saw him roll out. Began to wonder who he caught. Kept glancing in my rearview mirror when I noticed he was in the left-hand lane behind me with his lights on. I’m thinking no way. I’m going to get pulled over for going 62 in a 60 zone?!? Damn. Put on my turn signal and lane changed to the middle lane. Waited for Leo to follow me. Instead he pulled up along side me. Glanced over to see if he was motioning towards me. He was motioning, but it was to the driver in the blue car in front of me. Breathe a very heavy sigh of relief. Now here is my problem — my R7 was dead silent. Literally zero alerts on all bands and on laser. So my question is: What was the Leo using to nab the car in front of me? All I can think of is a bullseye laser shot on the blue car and there was no scatter. Can a Leo use laser inside a patrol car with the windows up? Every time I’ve seen a Leo use laser, he was standing outside of his a patrol car or standing on a bridge over the expressway.

Generally I see leo with laser windows are rolled down

However a tactic they use here often. is a cop shooting laser elsewhere (usually from behind) and then radioing ahead to a chase car parked on the side ready to pounce.

Yes cops can shoot laser through the windows.

The Stalker XLR advertises this, incidentally when we tested the R7 the R7 saw zero out of 3 shots of constant laser by the stalker XLR.I am talking about the laser gun being shot straight at the the R7 for about 20 seconds straight, on 3 different runs.

The R7 has issues detecting VPR guns, such as the XLR and the Dragon eye (DETC) but was able to detect 2 other laser guns 6 out of 6 times.

I am not saying that only those 2 guns are invisible to the R7, but out of the 4 guns we tested the 2 that had anti jamming technologies were invisible .

Now some people will say that laser detection on a radar detector is useless but I disagree,it is good to know fi you got shot by the laser gun and when, at least to know that it was not radar and your unit is working.

Seeing how it was able to see other laser guns the R7 is not completely blind.

Now the issue is, if the laser detection is fixed, will it increased in increased false alerts like the V1? or the 360c.

Thanks everyone for the replies and videos -- learned something new today! I doubt it was a chase car behind me because if it was then it would have caught me instead of the car in front of me. The whole encounter gave me great pause because I know my detector works, but it was dead silent on all three radar bands. Now that I know the Leo is running laser I will be more mindful of my speed through that section of the expressway.

Any chance it was VASCAR or something along those lines? Not sure how popular that is, but here in FL, we have lines on the highway for, I assume, VASCAR or aerial speed measurements.
