Looking to buy new radar detector which one ? Redline EX or Uniden R7. They are both are about 600.00. What you you buy? and why. I head some good reports about the EX . and bad reports compared to the original Redline for distance.

Welcome to the RDF! If it were me, I would buy the Uniden R7 and twice on Sunday.

By the way, Range is a Myth. It is a marketing tool for detectors with less to offer. I run a V1 which is third and fourth in overall range depending on the test and I haven't had a ticket since 1997 and I am plus 25 over PSL at all times while I drive.

IMHO, the R7 is a better investment and will have future firmware upgrades that will bring more improvements.

Have a look at the reviews at www.vortexradar.com

Enjoy!

Pros and cons to each of them. What type of features are important to you? Arrows, bluetooth, range, auto lockouts? Tell us a little more about yourself.

I own both and both have some positives and negatives. It really depends where you live and what you expect in a detector

How did you narrow it down between the EX and the R7? Why not the 360 and the R7, or the EX vs the R3? Or Ex vs Pro-M?

What features are important to you?

If you need a fully stealth detector I think the Redline EX is harder for RDDs to sense.

Welcome to RDF! No seat time with the EX, but I’ve used the R7 since launch and it’s an awesome detector. I used to run the Redline-O back in the day and loved it, but like you, I’ve heard mixed reviews about the EX. Then again, I’m sure not everyone loves the R7 either. As others have suggested, providing more of what you’re looking for in a detector is always helpful.

Welcome!

Each has its advantages.

R7: Longer range, better BSM filtering, arrows, bigger display.

Redline EX: More solid build quality, fully RDD immune, better mount, autolockouts, cloud integration, speed limit on display, more international gun support.

Between the two, I prefer the R7, but each tool has its place.

My take on the 3 I currently have...

Max360 (Awesome Filtering, Arrows, Auto Lockouts, Escort Live, Fair Range, Good Mount)

Redline EX (Good Filtering, No Arrows, Better Build Quality Than Max360 or R7, Stealth, Good MRCD, Better Chance Of Laser Scatter Pick Up As (4) Front Laser Sensors, Good Range, Awesome Mount, Escort Live)

R7 (Good Filtering With Some Manual Sensitivity Turn Down, Arrows, Cheaper Plastic Build Quality, Fair MRCD, Long Range, Good Mount, Laser Scatter Pick Up Less Likely Than Redline EX

Bought my Max 360 right before Thanksgiving last year and the Redline EX and R7 this year. I basically have been running the Redline EX with the Max360 and the R7 sitting in a drawer so my R7 is basically barely used. Think this is due to living in Chicago where arrows/extra range not so important as daily commute I'm locked in traffic where I'm not speeding anyway and when I do get to open it up I'm going fast enough 80-130mph that nothing behind me would creep up anyway to need arrows and the Redline EX range has been enough for me to slow down so far anyway.

I'd give the Max line the edge on filtering/autolockouts so a good city detector.
I'd give the R7 the range award but may need to dial down sensitivity so it doesn't drive ya nuts.
I'd give the Redline EX the edge on build quality, MRCD, Stealth, Laser Scatter

Ex is a good all around detector especially if stealth and Mrcd is needed but is not a good value new buy used priced uncompetitive
