I am planning a road trip next weekend from Long Island to the PA wilds area (Snow Shoe, Clarence, Moshannon...). Basically, I will be traveling Route 80 through Jersey and continuing on it through PA to our final destination. I will be pulling a trailer and won’t be traveling at warp speed , but won’t be at PSL either.

Typically we do several trips a year up to 380 and then north. Once in a while we travel further west than Route 380. This will be the first trip using a detector (R7) and also the first trip for 2019. It’s been a very different year.

I am looking for suggestions of what type alerts to look for along the way and any known traps, bad spots.

Thanks for any suggestions.

PA uses kband a bunch so I'd boost sensitivity a little and pay close attention to k band alerts in PA, they have been known to use IO K band too. Waze is a good option.

Thanks for that. I guess I should up my game and learn a bit more about my R7. Believe it or not (embarrassing as it is to admit) my commitment to it has been to unbox it and slap it on the windshield. No custom settings and no real research .

Well, between packing, work and getting the ATV’s ready, I need to find a few minutes to become involved with my RD.

Waze is on my list also.

A few quick settings to consider with the R7:
Mute at low speed
Advanced with Ka segments used in your area
Automute after a few initial alerts
X on
Make sure your firmware is updated to take advantage of the louder volume

From my experience pulling atvs and playing with radar, remember:
Larger vehicle = easier to acquire speed
Truck with a trailer = less likely to be targeted by police unlike the Camaro

I wouldn’t push it too far without laser protection. But then again I’m used to GA.
