Got an interesting hit today running the R7. I don’t have a vid or pic (might as well didn’t happen, I know). And honestly I was pretty distracted listening to the radio and thinking over some things at work I am working on.

So I am tooling along and suddenly Beep..... Beep..... I glance up and my R7 is showing me K band 23.838. What!? I did a double take because I thought it should say 33.838, but the alert noise was definitely K and the screen was definitely showing me “K 23.838”. Got up to 2 bars and the signal went away. Again, I was distracted and I can speculate, at best, the specific location.

So now we have seen reports of K up in the 25 ghz range (with pics) and now me mentioning it down in the 23 range, is my R7 wasting processing power on frequencies outside the popo bands?

I tried to search but didn’t come up with anything related to 23 ghz range K band. Anyone have any input?

I thought the R7 only went down to 23.900 because it's based on a crystal. Am I wrong?

Did you ever send your unit in for repair after confirming that 25GHz detection?
Actually no. I did a restore/firmware just to see if it was a software fluke. No signs of it yet. But if it does I will. Wanted to give the Software Gods a second chance. Lol.

If you did observe such a frequency, it's definitely a malfunction. The R7 will not scan K-band frequencies below 23.9 GHz.

Well I have basically lost faith in my R7. Noticed Qride wasn’t doing anything recently (full blast alerts under speed threshold requiring manual mute) until I changed the setting by cycling all the way through and back to the original speed setting.

@UnidenSupport do you have any suggestions?

Still getting odd frequencies and varied results even after a reset. On warm days this thing is a joke.

Guess I will have to pay out of pocket AGAIN to maybe fix another example of poor workmanship.

What are the odds I had the same issue with both my R1 and R7?!

Unfortunately, I am afraid I will be paying out of pocket for a "warranty" repair or replacement. Had a similar experience with the R1, it would take a reflash, work normally for a few days, then take a dump again. Seems unfair I have to eat the price of poor quality.

I suspect that the heat played a role too. I just thought these things were designed for those conditions. Other users have said they have had no issues. Just lucky I guess.

This morning got a 23.828. Couldn’t get the camera out in time. Happened in a different location (like 20+ miles difference). @UnidenSupport What now.
Received a 23.828 alert today. This is the first alert that doesn’t make any sense, since I’ve owned the R7. It showed up in a location that I drive through all the time, and I never receive alerts in this particular location unless a BSM offender happens to be present, but that’s rare.

Having said that, coincidentally, this time there happened to be a newer Honda CRV three cars in front of me, and a Mazda CX-5 (not sure the age) directly behind me. I wasn’t receiving any false alerts from either of these vehicles, as the R7 never made a peep until the 23.828 alert. I know the BSM offenders being present shouldn’t matter though as the R7 can’t scan this low. I couldn’t get the camera out in time either, but I had it ready just in case it appeared again, and of course, it didn’t.

As far as it being related to heat, who knows, but the weather here today is overcast and it’s in the low 60s, but I know the R7 gets pretty warm even on days like today without the sun constantly beating on it.

I've been reading some posts here and issues with temperature (RD gets too hot), so I started taking off my unit and placing in center console, because the Sun here is relentless. October 1st, still getting 87-88 degree days, and my car is a like a sauna.
I haven't seen any weird frequencies displayed, but I have noticed something else. When I was running K wide, I would usually get the 24.123/124 from Mazdas. Now that I have switched to K narrow, I do not get any alerts from those vehicles any more, and I sure do encounter them just about as before. Everytime I spot a CX-5 near me I am anticipating the false, but it does not register at all...

I always remove my detector when not in use. Mostly to avoid theft, but I also don’t like the thought of it baking in the sun all day. The outside temperature just started cooling off these past couple of weeks here, but every now and then, they’ll be a scorcher before the cooler weather sets in for good for the season.

That’s odd about the K narrow situation since it scans down to 24.080, so you should still be getting the false alerts from the CX-5 (even though I’m sure you don’t miss them). Have any of your other settings changed besides going from wide to narrow?

Only 2 changes (along with this) were TSF OFF and Advanced (from Highway) with 2/4/5/6/8
