In Utah the cops will actually follow you and check your tags before they activate lights a lot of the time. It's really common LEO behavior here. They like to know who you are before they stop you, as often as possible.

One time many years ago (about 2012 I think it was) I was listening to my BCT15X and heard local dispatch say the name of one of my friends. I called him up and asked him if he was getting pulled over -- no sooner had I gotten my question off to him than he told me he'd have to call me back in a minute. He called me after and told me he got stopped, and that's when I explained that was what my call was about; I had heard dispatch say his name over the radio. The LEO had followed him and asked dispatch to run the plate, all before the officer used his lights to stop my friend.

This happened at my local intersection when I was about to go through it about a year back... ever since then I always double check every time I go through any green light - people are just ****ing stupid.
I do the same thing too. It's definitely kept me from being t-boned on multiple occasions.

When I was a kid I used to wonder why my mom always looked left and right when the light turned green. Now I understand and appreciate her due diligence. This was in the days before mobile phones. Driving distractions have only increased since then.

When you are ready to see 100 of these per hour come in Athens, Greece, choose one traffic light that suits you and just wait... Facing the same scenario I believe that at least 3-6 vehicles would have passed the same red light.

Take a look at my simulation. A video recored for a forum where everybody loved to hate me (and much more) due to my hobby of testing countermeasures. I used to troll them from time to time so I decided to run a red light I knew very well and there was no danger to involve in an accident.

I've noticed lately that people don't even move over anymore even if the police are behind them with lights on blasting the horn. Watched a officer yesterday swerving around people in the left lane for a good 8-10 blocks.

I always looked both ways at the intersection before I go, and wait for people to slow down to a slow speed/stop on left hand turns on yellows. I don't trust anyone.

My son already chastised me for not having my dash cam plugged up and running. It was sitting in my backseat, so I have no video of this event.

Anyway, Monday I was stopped at a traffic light at the end of my neighborhood going to make a left hand turn. I was behind another car, and we were both sitting patiently as the light was red. When the light turned green, the car in front of me turned left, and I followed although in town I am sometimes fairly sluggish driving my big SUV and wasn't right on his tail. Anyway, I suppose I didn't check very well as a car came blitzing through the light, and I came side to side with the car, allowing it to get in front of me. It must have run the red light by 10 seconds. Absolutely crazy on a fairly busy highway. A miracle that I didn't get hit, and has made me even more cautious on turning left. I never dreamed that a car would be coming after the car in front of me had already turned. That deficiency is on me.

So where did he come from? From the left of your initial position, the direction you were going to be turning?

He came from my right. We literally occupied the same lane-ish headed the same direction, momentarily. I should have been more observant, rather than blindly following the car in front of me. You'd never think somebody would run a light between cars, but that's what she did.

I can't explain that other than distracted driving as well.

100% distracted driving. All reactions were to crisp to be impaired. Hard stop followed by a swift and clean reverse to another hard stop. This genius had to be texting and almost seriously injured him/ herself and whoever was in that passing car.

In Miami we call this "trying to beat a yellow" lmao, sometimes I run a red light by a few seconds and I feel bad, only to look in the rear view mirror and watch 3 more cars go behind me

X2, I typically do a 2 Mississippi Count before heading into intersection off a stop because of distracted drivers.
