So I believe it was @InsipidMonkey who was talking about discussing a few social group related issues/improvements that he'd like to see, namely how to handle defunct groups/groups without leadership attached to them.

I can't remember who it was in the past who also wanted to be able to do moderation within their social group forum. I believe I'll be able to implement this now that it's a standard function in our social group addon (we've been using it for so long and before recently this was not possible) so I'm going to mess around with that as well.

Is there anything else people would like to see in regards to social groups - mainly in terms of issues/improvements?

If this entails banning from the group, it's up to the person who stared the group, or is there an inferstructor like in the regular forum

That was me as well. How did you get to these menus? Or is this what you're enabling now?
Here are the abilities of a social group leader (aka, properly known as a social group moderator):

There is only one position higher than a social group moderator which is the social group admin but I do not grant this position out routinely because it creates the ability to delete the social group and that is not a standard function that should be allowed for all social group moderators or anything.

Did you want to be a social group moderator of the Investors group as well? I didn't see you mention it specifically so I didn't add you, unless you are talking about a different social group?

I don't know what an inferstructor is but lol, but, social group moderators are essentially the leaders of the group - banning people from the group (though almost ALL if not ALL social groups are technically private groups anyway so they require join approval) is at their discretion. Group leaders often come and go so for all intents and purposes, the current group moderators are in charge of their group in all fashions.

No, I was referring to the V1 group.

I was trying to sound it out instead of using Webster's. I was trying to say like LT , capt, foot soldiers etc. Chain of command. But you answered my question. Thank you

Gotcha. So go to your social group page, i.e.: https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?forums/213/

On the left side, you will see "Members Awaiting Approval" (in the event there are any, I think the group currently has 4 pending) - you will be able to approve/deny people from there. You can also add/remove members using the "Members" page on the left side of that page as well.

You can also as a social group admin/moderator make changes to the social group's settings - the image, avatar, etc, by clicking the settings cog. Example:

Is there room on the sidebar where user ranks are located to include groups? Perhaps a small indicator of group membership could be fit there. Some groups may enjoy this publicity while others may prefer to remain more secretive.

Does group activity appear in "What's New"? This is my primary method of discerning recent posts, and if social group activity is not here then I have great potential to miss it.

In social group "about" there is "admin" and "member" but no sign of the moderator rank. I also see no way to edit the description, although this is probably permission related.

What is "News Feed" and why does it redirect to "discussions"?

When pressing "edit group" the page returns "An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later."

Hmm, it shows both you and I as "Social Group Admins", but my cog menu is different:

I also don't have any options to sticky threads or delete posts like you showed before.

Most of those options are actual system admin options - people are not able to create groups on their own (else we may have 10000 random groups that nobody maintains/etc) hence why those are limited at the system admin level.

Yeah, see the OP here in this thread regarding this - I'm 99% positive it's because of the addon changes that have occurred over time. Let's see... let's try something. Give me 10 minutes.

There already is a sidebar entry for latest social group activity.

You want a new entry for the sidebar showing a list of social groups or something? We already have all of them listed on the main forum page - that's why I ask...

Yep!

Yeah I'm not sure why that is not an option - I'll mention it to the social group developer. I found a bug with their software a few minutes ago (which broke the forum) so I need to contact them anyway.

What is "News Feed" and why does it redirect to "discussions"?
According to the addon description...: Status Alerts. If this option is enabled, you will received notifications when a status posted in newsfeeds. This option only works when notification alerts are on.

I am not sure why this section doesn't work but I will inquire about it when I talk to the developer in a few minutes.

Head here and create a thread/try stickying it/moderating it/etc. Let me know.

@xydrine Social Group activity does not show up under "Whats New" for me.

Edit: Actually the subforum in the V1 group you just created shows up in "What's New" for me, but nothing from any other social group (including the V1 group general discussion subforum) does.

When I was talking about "What's New?" activity, I meant with the changes that are being proposed here in this forum - mainly to do with the new V1 test group forum. I want to make sure that the moderation abilities work properly and everything before I convert all social group discussion forums over to the new forum types.

Not sure if this is possible, but when someone hits report, it should go to that sections mods rather than the forum.

If that was an option I'd enable it but I wouldn't count on it being coded (would require the developer to do it and they don't do much work on the addon in terms of this type of stuff anymore unfortunately). I've actually been thinking about changing to a different social group addon for this reason but we'll see what happens.

I will probably disable the report functionality in social groups because I don't think it should be an option inside of them when the above behavior is in place (where it wouldn't be reported to a social group admin/moderator instead of the forum's staff).

@InsipidMonkey I mentioned in your sticky test - "See the "..." icon next to "Cover" and "Watch" - that's where it would be."
-- Double Post Merged: --
Also - in reference to what I was mentioning about a different social group addon - this is really (to my knowledge) the only other one available: Social Groups for XenForo 2.1+

Seriously considering switching us over - depending on the support we get in terms of what I just brought to the current addon we use's developer.

Heck, I'm actually surprised how controlled the social groups have been.
