Hello everybody,

I've had a v1 for a few years, but never put it to work. Shoot, I never even knew I could tweak it this much. Embarrassingly, I actually leave the thing on mute because there is so much chatter. I don't think there was a bluetooth dongle when I first bought it and manual programming was like learning Chinese.

I really want to get the most out of this thing. I ordered the v1connection and downloaded v1driver. Any recommended videos/reading material to help with the learning curve are greatly appreciated. I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around the order of operations to make the best of the v1. Also, custom sweeps. That v1 tabular sticky is a tough read for a beginner.

Thanks!!

Head over to the V1 section. You should be able to find what you’re looking for. There might even be a sticky regarding settings. The folks there will certainly answer specific questions. You might also check out the Vortex Radar website for videos.

Good luck.

welcome! lots of V1 users around here, even many of the fine folks that have written the various Apps for the V1 are on here as well so all the info you need is either posted up or we can answer questions if they come up :) once dialed in the V1 can be a very quiet detector.

Set up sweeps in V1 using V1C and set your preferred "boxes" and SAVVY speed in V1D settings. Information on the best settings for your area can be found in this forum. You can choose from several "Presentation Settings" and might experiment to find what you prefer. Decide how you want sound routed. As you drive, auto-learning will begin to quiet things down and over time, the statistical learning will improve the safety of the lockouts. You can decide how much chat you want (i.e. do you want to hear frequencies voice announced?) I do like to hear the announcement of connection just to reassure me that I am protected. The app is mature, very stable, and connection is automatic and reliable.

Thanks everyone. I definitely understand there is a lot of tweaking and auto-learning to be had around town. I am about to make a long drive and would love to bring this along utilizing V1D. If I were to preform the necessities, what would you suggest?

1.) Use V1 app to program the V1 using Vortex video above
2.) Should I set up sweeps right now?
3.) Use V1D to set up savvy speed thresholds and gps lockouts?

is this is? Am I making this more complicated than it is? Maybe it's just that I feel rushed to get it set up for the road trip and forced to learn everyone over night.

Welcome to the forum. Everyone failed to ask him if his V1 has ESP. If it does not say that on it, don't bother buying the dongle.

Sorry, I forgot to add that. It does has ESP/ on 3.893. I believe I read this will be ok. Is 3.894 necessary?

I don't use manual lockouts. Auto lockouts are safer and work quite well. I do mark known red light cameras so the app can announce them. Unfortunately, the first times passing a fixed radar source such as Walgreens, you will be annoyed (unless you are below the SAVVY threshold) but it's safer to let V1D learn so it can refine the data and minimize the risk of locking out LEO. For a road trip, this is moot anyway as you will not have established lockouts for an area you haven't been to before. Snooze will help with BSM's on the road.

3.894 added TMF2, which was a huge improvement in K band filtering. Your detector will still work with an app, but it's going to be working overtime with all of the K band noise out there :)

damn, doesn't the mfg offer firmware upgrades? Is this worth it? Is there a v2 for real on the horizon?

edit: sorry for not quoting. I forgot how to add quote in this forum format with the multi quote thingy.

Yes, you need the $79 firmware upgrade to become current. Plug your serial number in here for more info: Upgrades | Valentine One | Radar Detectors

Regarding a new V1, your guess is as good as anyones. The patents being issued, new V1s being out of stock, time since the last update, and various unconfirmed rumors from various sources all suggest something new is coming, but we won't know for sure until it's actually released. Here's hoping!

Dang. Would hate to drop all this money so close to a potential release. Is the TMF2 really worth it? Or would I be happy with the other upgrades until we hear more from Valentine?

Question about hooking up the v1 blue tooth adapter...I currently have my V1 hooked to rear view mirror with mirror tap blend mount. I read here about the invisicord. Can I just order a second mirrortap and hook it in the same terminals for the bt adapter? The cord on the mirror tap looks shorter and cleaner.

Thanks for all the helpful replies, guys.

Running K band is going to be difficult, especially in places like PA where only K band is used and you'll have to analyze every alert to separate real from false. There are still some here that run a TMF1 V1 with an app (@CJR238), and it will all come down to your tolerance for falses and the environment you usually drive in.

The V1 and V1C have to be physically connected, as the outer two conductors on the phone cord are used to transfer data between them. You can either use the included cigarette lighter adapter or included direct wire kit, or Invisicord makes a special split-wire tap for the V1 and V1C. You could also make your own split tap. There are several discussions about this in the V1 forum if you need some ideas.

understand.
I spoke to valentine and they are gonna turn the upgrade for me quickly, so hopefully this helps with the experience on the drive. Does anything else change with your instructions above or stay the same with the vortex videos, etc? I assume this upgrade from valentine is passive and works in the background with no specific tweaks needed in the v1 app, etc. ?

Yes, everything else stays the same. They'll just flash the updated firmware on your detector, give it a quick health check, and return it with a fresh one year warranty.

I'd be interested to see what firmware version it reports when you get it back. Please let us know!
