I don't suppose there is any source where we can get a replacement nut? Uniden??? This mount sticks really well in the hot weather and I would hate to give it up just because I can't get a replacement nut. My R1 was one of the first ones that they shipped so theoretically my mounting nut could fail at any time.

GTO_04
No replacement nuts sold by uniden
My guess is your climate has held you from any failures

So I just got one of these in the mail for my Uniden R7 and it’s loose and let’s the radar detector move back and forth, second it came bent sideways, and third, I have not mounted it yet but I don’t think the radar is going to clear the windshield with how the mount was designed

I'm pretty sure they just used the existing dfr/r1/r3 mount and just added r7 to the name for sales because it "works". Works great with my R3 and the wife's dfr7.

@Choose Life - I use an Arkon mount for my phone that has the same sort of nut (see pic below). The one I currently have in my car has a nut failure very similar to yours. So it would be nice if we could find a source for just the nut.

Looky what I have. This is for my R1 purchased in March 2018. You can have mine too. I have never used and have no plans to use. I saved it for such a time as this. I prefer the double black suction mount.

Maybe, but it would be nice if they said what size ball joint it works with.

Here's an ebay listing that might work:

Alternatively, @UnidenSupport - is there any way to get just the locking nut for the mount?
-- Double Post Merged: --
Just checked the Uniden ring/nut vs. the Arkon ring/nut. The Arkon ring/nut will NOT work with the Uniden mount. Right ball size but threads are finer for the Uniden mount. I tried to take a pic, but couldn't get my camera to focus right.

I thought I struck gold for you @Choose Life ! I have several G1W dash cams, but I don't use those suction cup mounts either, I use mirror mounts for them. I have several of those, but the nuts are just too damn small!

So it does actually clear the windshield but it just don’t like how much play my detector has, the tab needs to be very slightly wider and and the notch slightly smaller, I want it to be nice and tight, I am sending it back for now

As for the r3 and dfr 7, it's not crazy tight, but it vibrates way less than the small suction cup mount. I like it because it takes up so little room, you can mount it damn near anywhere.

Wish they would of just made the tab mount part slightly wider, even 1 mm would make it perfect

If we can't get the mounting nut, can we at least get another single cup mount from Uniden?

Edit: Looks like they do have a replacement single suction cup mount. They show a different one for the R7, so this is probably the one for the R1/R3.
I prefer the single cup mount because it is easier to get it level when it is not mounted at the center of the windshield.

New stuff shows up all the time
Now we know why Uniden is out of stock. eBay has all of them.

I’m getting 17mm on the Uniden ball which coincides with the garmin mounts as previously pointed out. REM there are two sizes of garmin mounts. A short one with smaller suction cup and a larger one with bigger suction cup. They both have same sized ball.

Posted from my iPhone using the RDF Mobile App!
And the SSS00265R is twice the price of the same mount on the Uniden website! Also, Uniden doesn't list the 265R as being compatible with the R7, just the earlier models. Uniden lists a different mount for the R7, and it is a lot more expensive at $24.99 before shipping.

I just ordered a spare mount, since the R1 is probably going to be my daily driver for awhile. I am very happy with the performance of my R1, and I don't see anything new coming down the pike any time soon.

I agree with you about the R1. I can't imagine anything working any better for Jane and I! I was going to pick up an R7 to put in our Boss 302, but it's too big to fit over my rear view mirror on a perm mount. I ran @VariableWave 's R7 for a week plus we tested it against my "ghetto arrow" setup in my daily driver, and my setup won! I picked up a mint Redline-O last week from @HackerPLEMC in our classified section and installed it in the back glass of my Boss 302 for my second "ghetto arrow" setup! It is already kicking @ss for me in the short time I've been runnng it! The cool thing about it is I can run the Redline with 2-5-8 only with no X band or K band and let it eat!

That is exactly how I am running mine. The Redline is built like a tank! And I never have any heat issues with it either. I figured I might as well take advantage of my existing CM arsenal. I still wonder what that Carmel LEO thought of that Redline staring back at him in my rear windshield. There is more than one way to improve your situational awareness!

The back glass in the Boss 302 is pretty dark with the factory tint and you can't even see it from the outside unless you know it's there and walk all the way up and really look for it. It's hardwired and on a perm Ebay Escort mount with the wire tucked under the headliner. Now it looks like I'm going to have to find a way to install a rear dachcam back there with it!
