NY here. Still on 1.37. It does its job and it does it well. We see Ka and K in my neck of the woods so I can't really take the chance of some K weirdness going on with my RD. Sticking with 1.37 until future updates.
Same... Between the random local cops in GA and TN alone the chances of hitting K band is pretty high!

I went from 1.37 to 1.50 just out of curiosity. The k-band 'delay' is still present, if not worse, than it was on 1.48 for myself. 1.37 is almost instant to react to my K-band Bushnell and 1.50 is very slow to alert.

I really want to get my hands on an R7 to see how it compares to the R3 on 1.37. If it is anything like 1.50 I might pass. The 360 alerts so much quicker than the R3 does now with 1.50 (all important settings equal). I might just drive around with it for the next week or so to see how it performs to see how it plays out in the 'real world', but I have a feeling I will drop back to 1.37 eventually.

I am still on 1.37, contemplating the update... just need some help from the PA/NY/NJ locals.

Gents - i read all the pages in this thread and seems there are some conflicting opinions.... What settings would you recommend to try for the 1.50? I need K band to work properly for valid LEO detection.
I drive in NY and PA. So far so good with 1.50. I'm running K wide, K filtering on, and K block on. Plenty of K and Ka detections. Only run K block if you are sure there are no locals in the block range. Either run Ka wide or segment for the threats in your area. In NY, I run segments 2,4,5,6,8.

There is only a slight delay with TSF on correct? With TSF off it should still be lightning quick.

TSF on later firmware versions has been more intrusive compared to 1.37 so it may also be the case for the 1.50 firmware.

My R3 will alert quicker than my 360 every time on 1.37. However, on 1.50 it now alerts after the 360, and almost needed double the time the 360 needs to alert.

Apples to apples setting on the R3 with the different firmware versions.

You don’t open the bin file directly. Once you install the update software, open it and make sure it finds your detector, then open the bin file within the update software and click start download. Make sure you install the drivers before doing anything else. This video should help. Ignore the firmware versions being referenced. The update procedure is the same though.

It tells you right in the instruction page where you download the file. Very Clearly

I’ve used two computers, several browsers, watched the youtube video way too many times, don’t even know how many hours I’ve been trying and still can’t get the firmware update on my R3. Is there anywhere I can send this thing to get the update?

Try a different cable

Bought a new cable on Amazon. It communicated the first time I plugged it in and auto loaded the drivers. I keep getting stuck at various points in the process. My screen doesn’t do what the video does at all. Have tried word for word from the Uniden instructions. Got to the desktop icon but it won’t do anything from there. I clicked the “auto” box but it just says “searching”. Can’t get past that.

Probably the only place you could send it is to Uniden and I’m sure they would update it for you. If the update software says “searching,” then it’s either a cable issue or a driver issue. If you’re sure the cable is good, and I know you said it auto loaded the drivers, try installing the drivers again manually anyway. I believe that is the issue.

Where do you live? Perhaps someone on the forum could meet up with you and update it for you.

@radarguy123 : More details please ? Can't connect at all, or can't update ? How do browsers matter ?

Here's the usual procedure:

- You download and install the tool.
- You download the firmware

- You connect your R3. Nothing says whether it should be powered on via a separate power supply or not. You click on the "Detect" button on the tool like a madman. Nothing happens. You look around for any way to power your detector from the comfort of your couch. No dice.

- You then realize that it's windows after all and download and install the windows drivers which are listed as not mandatory, sitting there on the download page. The damn thing gets detected even before they are finished installing. You rip a long one and proceed with the install.

At least - that's how it went for me.

I had a feeling there was a delay imposed to K Band when I updated from 1.37 to 1.50, and this helps confirm that. That bums me out, because I do see a lot of legit K around my area. However, I sit in so much dense traffic every day that having the K block made a world of difference around my area. I'll take the tradeoff honestly, albeit reluctantly.
