So I was just out driving and went to comment on a police pin as I sometimes do and the comment button is no longer there (just the vote button). I noticed when I try posting a police pin I also cant add a description like I used to... Did waze remove this in the latest version? Anyone else seeing this?

I noticed this today as well. Not sure when they removed the functionality.

Seeing the same here... They must have done away with it.

I wonder if there are changes to the data stream. @johnboy00 ?

Sigh................That sucks. Probably removed it because of either "safety" due to people crashing when trying to enter a comment while driving or as a way to avoid inappropriate comments that people are leaving.

Comments are really useful, especially to let people know about air enforcement. Guess we could start leaving negative reviews for the Waze app for removing comments?

I can still drop map chats to warn folks, but those don't pop up or alert so unless you see the pin and click on it you wont get the info... dropping police pins with no comment at the begining of the aircraft trap measurement zone when there are no cops there just means the pins will be voted down very quickly. I will have to check and see if running an older version of waze will still allow the comments to be entered and show up or whether it will allow entering the comment but they will strip that info before the pin posts... I'm hoping they were lazy and just removed the ability to enter a comment but left the code that was there for older versions so that comments made in the older version still show up for all versions... I will have to test on one of my older phones. I'll spoof myself into the ocean and put up a police pin with a comment then use a phone with a new version to check and see if i can see it. I will say I have seem some people call cops some pretty bad stuff on the comments so I could see that being the reason it was removed.

The fields are still there, but a cursory glance of my area revealed no content. That could just be because there have been no comments.

I suspect they left all the back end code in place but removed the Commenting button and input field in the new version... so I will try an older version tonight at home that still has the button and see if the comment shows up publicly. If so i can generate the report s and no one will be able to comment that they "aren't there" any more which would actually be a positive. I was just hoping I hadn't gotten my account blocked from commenting or such... seems like it's a "feature"

Comments are still enabled for all of the other alert types (eg traffic, hazards, etc). Just missing from police reports.

This sucks. I always posted if they were a radar running LEO, if they weren't running radar, all is clear, the LEO is eating Donuts only.

OK so I just tested this in the ocean.... In the older version of waze I have on one of my phones (4.48.0.5) I can post a police alert with a comment description on the initial post. I can also add an additional comment (the one that shows up as a green dot on the police pin). When viewing the pin on a newer version of waze 4.52.5.5 I can see the pin and the description comment posted with the original pin, however the additional comment that shows up as the green dot (while the dot does show) there is no way to see whats there as there is no comments button to get to it. On the Waze live map I can see the pin with the description as well as the added comment. So I will downgrade my Waze on my phone a version and prevent it from updating going forward for a while.

I haven’t tested to verify , but I’m probably in the minority on this one. I think the mark is enough. I’ve seen people comment on marks with the frequency of the radar being used. I think that’s a bad move. The cops check Waze. We don’t need the cops that use constant on changing their tactics and start using I/O because RD users are basically telling them it’s easy for us.

Never really saw the point of comments, to be honest. I don’t look at them, don’t even know how to tell if there are comments nor do I care to learn. I don’t leave comments. No real point in any of it. Just mark and move on. They’ll be gone soon enough.

The one reason I use the comments is in the case of well hidden units (like rear shots from on ramps, overpasses, or for those really busy traps (multiple moto units that are running in small loops and while one may not be in the den now it will be right back) and Aircraft.. If I'm dropping the initital pin I will state something like 'Hidden on ramp', or 'shooting from overpass' or 'multiple moto units working in area' as many general users won't see a cop blatently sitting on the side of the road and will vote it down, with a description they know where to look and what to look for that way they vote correctly and the pin stays alive longer and helps more people that would never see the cop on their own. for obvious traps I don't comment or describe because its clear if the cop is there or not. the other really important one that I use a description and comments on are for aircraft traps. I drop police pins at the start of the measurement area when there is a live aircraft trap. There aren't visible ground units at that point but thats where the measuring is going on and where you need to be slowed down... if I describe the aircraft people will vote up the pin... especially if there are more pins ahead where they are pulling people, if I drop pins with no description it's downvoted in minutes as folks dont see anything meaning it dies quickly and more people get pulled as they dont slow down until they are alerted just before the den of cops, way past the point where the speed measurement happened. Agree with not telling too much info, like what lidar gun they are using or which radar frequency it is cause thats a tip that there are people with good CM's in the area, but simply having good eyes and seeing that well hidden unit and helping others spot them and learn where to look is useful

If it's a LIDAR trap, I will usually leave a comment. But, any and every freaking time I've seen a comment and looked at it. It says "not there". So idiots, don't even know how to use the comment part and it's basically useless. I'm fine with them taking it off.

It's more the description box that you can fill out when posting the pin that I miss as that displays with the banner pop up when the alert is announced so it's right there on the screen to read... The comments are less useful but nice when someone else gets a pin up before me

Has anyone tried using the desktop Waze editor to mark the starting points of VASCAR lines?
