Hi there, I am looking for some information for my new car. I am wondering what to get for protection for my Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. I am new to radar and laser suppression. I live in British Columbia where the police use both radar and laser apparently.
1. Not sure if I want a remote or windshield mount but probably remote
2. I really don't want to spend $3000 which is what I have read for both radar and laser suppression and then install
3. I drive in and around Interior and Okanagan of B.C. and down to Vancouver/Lower Mainland area a couple times per year
4. For the most part I do the speed limit but want protection when I do the occasional fast stretch
5. It is a pleasure use vehicle as I drive two different pick up trucks but want to go for rides on the dual lane highways around Kamloops, BC
6. I have not used any countermeasures before.
7. Lots of curves and obstructions including mountains
8. I don't think there are Redlight cameras any longer. Not sure about the GPS option and whether I need it.
9. I use an Apple device unfortunately (for work).
10. No MRCD I don't think.

Nice car!
Starting at about $300 (Uniden R3 on special) up to $700 (Uniden R7) you can get very decent radar protection. I think for ~$2000 you could easily get Laser + Radar protection (ALP + netradar or ALP + radenso). Install might be a bit hard on your vehicle, but not impossible.

Welcome. Beautiful car. Porsche lover myself. Sounds like you’ll do fine with a windshield mount RD like the R3 or R7. Laser CMs are obviously more of an investment but if your not really driving that fast regularly and you use VVaze with some common sense you’ll probably be fine.

Welcome to RDF!

The NetRadar DSP, Radenso RCM, & Escort Max Ci 360 are the go to remotes. ALP & TMG are the go to laser jammers. I know that doesn’t help much, but all seem to be great systems from what I’ve read here. I unfortunately don’t have experience with any as I run a Uniden R7 (windshield mount), and currently do not have laser jammers. More members who run these systems will hopefully chime in and be able to give you better advice and the pros/cons of all them.

Beautiful car by the way!

Can you please explain what VVaze is? I can't seem to find what that means

The navigation app W a z e. We just don’t like to spell it out normally so it doesn’t show up in web searches outside this forum.

Welcome aboard- I drive with an Escort 360c with the matching laser defense ZR5 system. I have 4 sensors up front to combat the dreaded Dragon Eye pest that pervade Gwinnett county here in Duluth, GA. I've always been an advocate of matching up manufactorurers products oppoised to mixing them up when at all possible to do so. But in the RD field its not always the best policy. As an owner of a matched system, Ive had it tested JTG on 3 different DE guns. So I can from experience say the Escort system on my Porsche can hold up to anything out there in the CM systems. I had mine installed professionally as it was a challenge to say the least to get it installed for me. Im happy with my setup and also use a R3 on distance runs on the KA band only as they tend to be a noisy PITA when using them as a complete unit detecting the entire frequency band width. I don't like to "dial back" units as some do as it defeats the purpose of distance vs noise to me. This is just my 2 cents worth as Im in the minority in here where my choices are concerned. But the results speak for themselves for me. I cant speak for the ALP system but they -on paper- seam to be an outstanding choice as well. And Radenso is also a fine choice for a RD, since its a German product if Im not mistaken. (German car, German RD, LOL). There will be many opinions here, but which ever you select, research Vortex's choices, he's the best authority in my book on these systems. Hope my 2 cents will help.

Welcome, and buckle up! I think the previous posters have pretty much covered all your options as far as layers of counter measures (CM).

Hi Fatty welcome to the forum great to have another BC user here. Awesome car! For RD the Uniden R7 would be your best choice with off axis given our terrain and mountain roads. It is the best on Ka and very good on K which you will face but you will need to set it up properly. If cost is a concern you can go with the R3 which offers almost the same range as the R7 and will serve you fine. There is no MRCD here in BC (rumours are it is coming) and I don't think Kamloops/Kelowna areas has red light or speed cameras but you can check online as they are listed publicly. You also want to the get the free w a z e app as mentioned (I run on my apple car play which is another CM you can use) We definitely have laser here and some of the toughest guns too, for this you have two options as noted ALP which in Canada is crazy expensive but the best system today or TMG (which I run) which is very good and improving. For those trips down to the coast watch your self on the hill from Kelowna down to Merritt, the connector and anywhere near Hope. Good luck and let us know what you choose. Feel free to send me a PM if you want.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate the feedback. I may start with the R7 and get the ALP in a few months as I like to pay cash and not starve the family (LOL).

I ended up purchasing the Uniden R7. Thanks for all the helpful feedback. Now to get it ready and set up.

Thanks for the info on Tuesday. After I read everyone's info I did go with the R7. I found Vortex Radar's Youtube channel as well so it is helping ease into the set up etc. Thanks again.

Thats great, where did you buy it from? You will need to setup it properly for here, R7 is super sensitive and adjust K band settings as lots of K pollution. Most of Vortex recommended settings (he is the Seattle area) are good here so you could start with that. For K how much City driving do you do? RCMP still use it regularly...

I do about 60/40 City/Hwy. I got it from Visions as they had a 15% price match guarantee. They wanted $999.99 but kmph.ca wanted $828 but i needed it fast so showed Visions the webpage and they matched price and beat difference by additional 15%. Then I got a 4 year warranty (which I don't normally do) and he reduced the price of the R7 but $50 more to show full warranty (he gets paid more obviously). I did find his recommended settings as well. Thanks for your help. Took it to the lake yesterday with wife and two kids plus stuff for beach for a day with no problem and lots of room (daughter only 9 and son is 11). They fit fine in back seats.
