Just got two tickets in a week. My trusty R3 has let me down. Can’t figure out WTF.
One in Leduc on hwy 2
One leaving Banff on highway one.
Pulled over both times

Both. No KA or laser alerts. Which is what it’s always been.

Can’t figure out WTF is going on ?
Anyone know if there’s new tech with the cops???

Help.

The issue is the poor laser detection in the R3. You need ALP to defeat. Watch for aircraft too; there are a couple of apps here which can alert you to aircraft. Waze is your friend!

aircraft is what worries me now after seeing reports that they are attempting to ramp it up. waze can be helpful but won't get you alot of notice and sometimes won't notify you in time as their aircraft zone is quite a bit ahead of where the police are. any other apps you know of to help with aircrafts?

Highway radar has been a standard, and JBV1 has recently created an offline mode.

Detectors are piss poor at detecting laser. Either crap filtering so you get a boy who cried wolf situation or no alerts at all. It's basically just a gimmick or a ticket notifier when it goes off.

Look at some TMGs or ALPs (or ZR5s) depending on where you live.

Piss-poor is right @SquirrelMaster

I went through my 6th laser trap Thursday with no alert from my R1- it has never gone off in ANY laser trap. It is mounted high in a full-sized truck, and that may have something to do with it. My R1 is not even a laser ticket notifier.

I am seeing a slight uptick in laser due to all the heavy traffic around here (Raleigh NC). You can’t pick out individual speeding cars with radar in traffic like you can with laser.

Somewhere in cyberspace.
Here in Florida, if the po-leez be using laz-r there are four or more chase vehicles. It doesn't pay them to fly an aircraft unless they can write a lot of tickets.

That stretch between Leduc and Edmonton wouldn’t be Aircraft patrolled. It’s right in the flight paths of the Edmonton International Airport for landings and Takeoffs.

There’s also no painted lines on the highway that the Leo’s need for their stopwatch starts and stops.

It would be more of a concern between Wetaskiwin and Airdre. Then again, there hasn’t been any freshly painted Aircraft lines on the roads. There are some that have been there for 25 years or more. In the hundreds of trips I’ve driven that highway I think I only seen it patrolled by air 20 years ago and that was once.

Between Leduc and Edmonton? Two option.
1. Your R3 is defective
2. It’s Lidar. More than likely an on ramp or overpass shot from behind. There’s no detector that’s going to help you.

Even a front head on shot won’t. The closer they are to you, the more narrow the beam is.

Which firmware and settings? R1/R3 should have no problem in detecting any band, but if it's laser, ALP is needed. Do you have X-band on or off? As far as I know, it's still used in USA.

Was the one on highway 1 outside Canmore?
They typically setup with laser on the overpass with support chase vehicles for a big quota day.

There was an article in the Herald last year that stated RC's are not using aircraft anymore due to the high cost.

For me I believe Laser will increase in Alberta, no clear evidence to support it but detectors are so good now, but most folks can afford a laser set up. #keepsavingthecash

Getting laser hits on my DFR9, seems more responsive that my Escort Max (only on power up).

Ya as Heywood says, next time provide more details rather than “my detector x let me down” Video is always best but if not, where exactly you were (lots of AB members here) open road or just went under an overpass, what you got hit with, front or rear, what CM’s you were using and the settings you used, lots of help and recommendations here to help...

What about your K settings?

I’d guess lidar, but K is an option too.

2 in one week ! That hurts.
Unfortunately you are going to have to (consider) slow down for awhile.
Start saving your pennies. Sounds like Jammers are a requirement for your area.
Talk to a lawyer.
Good luck.
