Had my first POP encounter tonight in Baytown,TX by the local PD. They are pretty much split between 33.8 and 34.7 with a few 35.5 units. I was on the interstate and he was sitting at the end of the offramp in a gas station parking lot. I'm not sure if it was a false or not though. It lasted probably 4-5 seconds, just long enough for me to miss getting a picture. I would've imagined pop being a kind of instantaneous thing that would only register for a fraction of a second on the RD. No complaints with the R7 so far, pretty interesting detection.

It showed pop on your detector? And it lasted 4 seconds? Hummm never heard of that unless maybe it latched on for that long

Clarification needed,

Did you have Ka POP on, and did it read as POP on the display? Or are you assuming POP because it was a short alert?
lol beat me to it :)

Dang. I was thinking this may be one of the first “out in the wild” legit pop reports I have ever heard about-

Will wait for more info from OP

I think if a cop is really that desperate to beat a detector user they may as well just use LIDAR, it just take too much work to get two readings .

I think Instant on is deadly enough , if the officer is selective enough is one shot one kill deal.

i could have sworn i read somewhere recently (maybe from Vortex) that if you have Ka POP = ON, every alert on 33.8 will show as POP at first, then switch over to regular alert.

I have had a few false alerts on 33.8 with this and it always showed POP for a second or two.

Yes, Vortex did some bench testing and found that POP On improves reactivity of the R3 to 33.8 with all 33.8 alerts initially showing as POP.

Yeah, all this obviously still remains an interesting topic. I experienced exactly the same, like the above reported, on Tuesday for a few seconds, I dont remember for how long. Mentioned it in another thread. I was driving with K POP on and Ka POP on with traffic ahead, when my R1 all of a sudden went off on an intercity road with POP on screen and then Ka band announcement 33.8. My first thought was about unmarked car ahead or some police car, hidden in the bushes. There were some legit K alerts from cameras and a few falses mostly on K and X in cities on my route that day, but never something like this. And here we dont see much Ka band. I even have this recorded. If it is something curious, I will show you next week. Record will refresh my assumption or will contradict me. I just miss details cause was staring most of the time at the RD than at my surroundings. But given the situation, I am inclined to think there was something there.

Sorry for the late response guys. Yea I have KA POP on and the display read POP for the entire alert along with with freq. I’m with y’all, this is the first time I’ve ever gotten a POP alert but it seemed strange that it wasn’t super quick. Anyone else run into falses that show as POP?

POP hits are very short by nature. 67ms for Ka POP, and 16ms for K POP on their fastest models. The Escort detectors create an alert that lasts a good amount of seconds. I don't recall how long it is, but it feels like 10+ seconds if I recall correctly from memory. The Uniden R1/3/7 are much faster at clearing the alert, the alert will end faster. Based on the fact that you saw the officer, it sounds plausible. Not enough information to say clearly yes or no. I will tell you that my experience with the R3 and R7 is that they rarely false on POP compared to my experiences with my Escort Max 360 and 360c. Keep your eyes peeled and keep us posted.

ummm i beg to differ, nevada still does.
Thats Nevada. Maybe a handful out there in the USA. Its not practical, can get beat in court, I/O ka is the one Im concerned with. Probably a false.
Chances of getting hit with any pop radar anywhere is slim to none. Most police dont even use this mode when targeting anyways. But ide say if he hits you with pop radar thats like winning the lottery:) go and play lotto right away....hahhaaa

This is feeling like a false alert to me. What is your Ka Filter set to?

Had another one today that I believe was a false. Any known POP falses?
Leaky Cobra detectors are notorious for 33.8 falses and the testing Vortex did showed that with POP enabled on the on the R3, every 33.8 signal will initially display as POP. Plain old IO is deadly, is less work for the officer and is admissible in court whereas a single POP reading is not. I would suggest turning off POP and not worrying about it because it never really gained acceptance with LEOs . If a LEO really wants to nail somebody, they can pick a stealthy hiding spot, wait for an easy target and zap them with IO.
