I wanted to start a new thread to not fill the GPS mod thread up.
I am making a rechargeable liion battery mod for the uniden handheld scanner. I wanted to gauge interest to see how many people would be interested and how many pcbs I should order. Here are some features :

  • Almost plug and play. Requires 3 wires to be soldered but can easily be popped in and out after.
  • Allows charging while unit is on; no more powering down the unit to recharge it.
  • Everything is contained in the battery tray with no holes needed to be made except if you want led indicators.
  • Safety features:
    • Under voltage battery protection.
    • Over/under temperature battery protection. (can consider disabling this for people in very cold climates but not sure yet.)
    • Battery charger timeout. (this is optional, default on). Automatically disables the charging after 6 hours.
  • Modular options:
    • Optional status LEDs: Plugged in, charging, low bat, charged.
    • Optional wireless charger: Qi compatible wireless charging receiver. Will work with the OBGrip mount or any common wireless charging phone dock/pad.
Adding a poll to see how many people are interested and how many pcbs to order. Price should be around $60 for the "fully loaded" battery pack and charger. This is subject to change.

Here's some photos of the WIP.

I voted yes on this. If you don't mind I'd like to add though my assumption is that the GPSmod would also be able to be done at the same time. I'd want to ship it out once. :)

Fingers crossed that the OBGrip is going to be modified for wireless charging to match this. That would be so perfect.

GPS mod is going to require some more time. That will have firmware running on it which I want to make sure 100% is bug free before I send it out. My thought was that for those that want the battery mod and the GPS mod, I can do the battery mod and then just refund/cover the shipping for the GPS mod or give a discount on it.

Haven't quite figured this out yet.

That looks freaking great! I hope Uniden is paying attention at what they can do with future scanner models.
