I agree 100% I also respect JBV1 and I still love my V1, but it doesn't compare to my R1 on performance! The R1 has nailed the range on Ka band to a T for me for what I face, I don't need 500 miles! It's not so much about pure distance anyway it's more about a trooper hiding a mile away over a hill or around a curve!

You need to do a factory reset on the V1 custom sweeps. It is noticable.

Somewhere in cyberspace.
I feel you @Kennyc56 I desperately want to try the V1/JBV1 combo for all of the information and incredible filtering options, but the range worries me around here. I average 0.2 - 0.5 miles per Ka alert with my R3 (mostly 35.5 with a little 34.7) up here in local New England just due to the terrain, and that's mostly C/O! And don't even get me started on how much K band I see...

If Mike V bumped the range a little bit, I would be in line right now for a V1. I am utterly fascinated by the stuff JohnBoy is doing with his app and I respect the hell out of it. But I need a little more range and/or a change in location before I would be comfortable with a V1. I have enough brown stains with my R3...
My longest detections using my V1 are 2.0 miles on 34.7 and 2.1 miles on 35.5. Most are far less, naturally.

My V1 is a 3.872 model. It doesn't have custom sweeps. I run it with Ka guard off only on Ka band. X band and K band are off. I've run my V1 against @VariableWave 's new V1 with custom sweeps and JBV1 and my V1 either beat or tied his on every test we have run!

It can happen on occasion that sweeps get corrupted, and it will make a difference. Like you said, the fix for that is to do a factory reset and then re-push the sweeps. I've heard of folks who would do that on a periodic basis just to make sure they never get caught with their pants/sweeps down.

My V1 is the most solid built detector that I own, a lot of good it does sitting in my closet! The only thing I use it for anymore is testing. It's no slouch either, it's good for 4+ miles front and back, only problem is, if there's ANY off axis involved my range drops like a rock. After you run a R1 for any amount of time you will get a trooper hiding over a hill with a corner involved and it will get an alert that will blow your mind! At first you'll think that it's a fluke, then it keeps blowing your mind and saving your @ss in spots that my V1 can't even come close to! It all depends on what you have to face. All I get is I/O so I need to get a whiff of it as far away and as far off axis as possible! Some of you don't have to worry about anything but C/O that any detector can pick up for miles! I'm not that lucky until we go out of state!
That's nice. But 2.2 km's around three curves with lots of greenery near the road and the cop out of sight until the last 500 metres will do me just fine. It'll do this over and over for years.

PS. This was a low mount on a bike too.

Good for you! I've been running my V1 for almost 10 years and I know exactly what they are capable of. My V1 has saved me so many times that I can't begin to even count them! If I would not have tried a Redline or R1 I'd still be tickled pink with mine! If something comes out that's better for me than my R1's, then my R1's will be headed for the closet as well!

Can you do a factory reset from the apps? I know there’s a manual way to do it with the knob

I did a Factory reset to my V1 via JBV1, to enable all functions on the last test with @Kennyc56

Don't get me wrong, I would love having JBV1, but range is way more important to me than filtering with these trigger happy NC state troopers I face!
I've never suffered for range in NC with V1 and JBV1. Saved my ass many times. With JBV1 I get alerted to a Trooper first then the RD goes off. I always have plenty of warning.

It's not a range thing! It's an off axis thing that you will never notice until you run a Redline or R1 and pick up a crazy @ss off axis 35.5 hit that you can't believe! I noticed it years ago when I ran my Redline and V1 together. On straight up radar with no off axis they would alert almost as one, even up to 4 or 5 miles, but throw in some off axis like a curve or hill and the V1 would still give me enough time to slow down, but the Redline would have already alerted 5 seconds earlier! I guess some of you dont't give a damn as long as you get a save, but I want that extra 5 seconds! Like I said until I used my Redline with BS/RDR and R1 I thought my V1 was the ultimate too! It's still a great detector but around here I need every split second of advanced warning I can get against I/O 34.7 and especially 35.5!

We were confused when you said you got alerted first and then the detector went off.
That's how JBV1 works sometimes. It alerts to a CSA and then alerts to radar when you are in range.

They’ve been processing the firmware upgrades this whole time. That’s what the $79 upgrade is, putting the Junk K Fighter firmware on units that are modern enough to not require hardware upgrades. I don’t think his point is valid, that upgrading firmware to the latest and greatest for a lower price when a new hardware revision may be coming at some point is somehow unfair to those enjoying their upgraded detectors, but to be fair they’ve been holding off letting people do the more expensive upgrade where they trash your old detector and send you a brand new one.

If a new V1 hardware revision is coming, they may have planned to have it out by now, and so they stopped making the “old” current one and sold out of them, sitting only on a pile of new ones. If they’re that hardcore about not releasing until so much later in the patent process than everyone else, to the point where they won’t even take orders or ship product, I don’t really understand that, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

@Rocket Jockey what do you mean “new plugs”? That doesn’t make sense to me. If whatever that means is backwards compatible, we’re still talking about RJ11 jacks, right? Do you just mean an updated (somehow) 12V socket adapter or something?

So you got this NOT from the lady answering the phone but from an insider / tech person? I think that’s what I remember. There has been a lot of conflicting reports.
