Just got hit with laser yesterday so immediately jumping to find a solution. I had a Laser Interceptor years ago that I never got any use of, and after moving to a state that never uses laser i never upgraded it. Sure enough, move back to Ohio and it only takes me a few months to get hit with laser. Hoping to install an ALP system on my BMW 440i, and if I like it I may add to other vehicles as well. If anyone knows where to find the best deals, send them my way.

Thanks

Welcome from Michigan !
Ohio is pretty aggressive for sure.
Sounds like you just received a ticket then ?
Hang around and do some reading.
Plenty of great info here.

Welcome to RDF! ALP is a great choice for sure. Running a radar detector at all? How about Waze?

In regards to ALP, you can buy new from BRD, but hes away for a week or so.

If youd consider a used system, Take a look at the Buy/Sell on our forum. ALP dont depreciate that much however.

You can also look at TMG!

Yep, 77 in a 40. Pisses me off because I just got a ticket 2 weeks ago for "speed for conditions" that I'm fighting in court. But this one was all me so I'll probably just lawyer up and hope for a reduced ticket.

Yep I have a Uniden R3. That sucker has been worth every penny. It replaced a 9500ix that I had for years beforehand.

Edit: Still not sold on waze yet because I don't have unlimited data on my phone and rarely use it at all in the car. I don't even have a phone mount because I pretty much just leave in in a dash cubby while driving. I may need to read up more on it.

Welcome @kern417 ! If you have your heart set on ALPs then BRD Best Radar Detectors, Top Reviews, Laser Jammers and Accessories is the place you need to go. Be advised that their office is closed for a week so any orders placed during that time will most likely be delayed just a bit. The wait will be worth it as they will take great care of you.
I bought my radar detector from BRD so definitely familiar with the good service. I'd have a look at the classifieds if I had access but seems like I need to work up my rep. I'll get there soon.

Shared your reluctance for the same reason. Load the program where you have free wifi. It really doesn't use all that much data when driving (I haven't had a problem, and I get put in the slow data lane after 1 GB a month)

If you're going to roll 37 over PSL (ask me how I know) you will need to make a wholesale change in your vehicle management strategy. Waze is a must, top teir RD is a must, ALP is a must and you'll need to elevate your situation awareness because the ALP should be your last line of defense. It's what bails you out when all your other precautions have failed.

This was seriously a wild scenario. Not a typical habit at all. It's a 6 lane street (3 on each side) so traffic typically moves 55-60 already. I happened to speed up for a second to get into the correct lane and with no traffic in front of me i stood no chance. I still have no idea where the LEO was hiding to be honest, because when he pulled me over it was a mile or so away due to him having to maneuver through the traffic behind me. I also have laser disabled on my radar detector because 1. it notifies you too late and 2. i don't want to sacrifice radar performance. I just haven't needed a jammer until now.

I remember my 9500ix days. Great detector at the time! The R3 has stellar performance!

Waze doesn’t use as much data as you might think. It’s a great tool and can provide you from saves, especially laser.

Sorry to hear about your ticket.

Ah good, then you should be able to auto pilot a bit.

I'm generally 30 to 40 over PSL so hyper vigilance is my standard state.

Here 25 over is reckless. Honestly glad I didn't get arrested for that stint yesterday. But I lost faith in my countermeasures after getting paced by an unmarked mustang a few years ago, so i don't get comfortable driving past 20 over unless absolutely no one is around.

Question - If I order the triple setup, is it two regular heads and 1 TX head?
Looking at this: AL Priority Parking System - Starter System w/1 CPU & 1 Sensor

What part of Ohio? Traffic enforcement is so aggressive in Ohio - even for the small, local departments. You rarely see a police car without at least a radar gun.

Yeah, they don't do that unmarked crap in Texas. You should get control of your state back and get your AG back on a leash.

I'm in Cincinnati. They're favorite is to pick and choose one of the emergency-offs between I75 Northbound and Southbound. They're about a mile apart for 10 miles or so, and you never know which one they'll park at. But there's always at least one.

Welcome! and Yes definitely add some laser protection, I would recommend ALP since Ohio has some of the toughest guns so you want max protection. I would suggest rear heads too at some point even if you just start with two and add more down the road... rear shots aren't as common but they do happen sometimes.

ALP with two RX heads vertically and one head TX is rock solid on most BMW's, lots of folks here have done it and it has tested well consistently. I've tested a couple myself and it did great against the hardest guns.

Waze doesn't use all that much data, I use it constantly and it's usually less than 100 MB/month (and I drive a good 2500+miles month), it comes in very handy especially on highways. Also note that Ohio does use some aircraft as well for speed enforcement. so another app you can consider is highwayradar... it can pull in waze alerts and also tracks some aircraft so it can alert you if there is a suspect aircraft nearby where you are driving.

if you want access to the classifieds section you need either 50 posts (which include replies) or you can become a premium member.

thanks for the info. i saw two installs in another subsection that sold me on the 2+1 setup. I have seen a few officers parked on highway onramps aiming at passing traffic, but they always use radar. And I've made a habit to look back when passing the most common ones. I'm sure eventually I'll get rear protection, but not up for the investment yet.

And you just gave me a flashback to a friend that got pulled over after being followed by aircraft. I completely forgot they do that here as well. It's a great state to not have to worry about inspections and such, but yes they know how to trap speeders.

I grew up in Northeast Ohio but have moved around the country since. Ohio is like no other state I've lived. It feels like a warped game of cat and mouse between police and drivers.
