I've been using Waze for about 8 years now. Curious as to why lately many users are anonymous or their name does not appear when you go to mark a gas station etc. How do they do this and still accumulate points now??

I don't know that they do accumulate points. They just like it but prefer to run anonymously, I imagine. Thanks to one of them I get this shockingly long warning today:

As a Waze Beta tester, GPDR was something to do with it. Hope that helps with my vague answer.

They are accumulating points.
Meaning what??? They trying to get us all to use FB to log in now?? how do I go anonymous and still accumulate points w/o login in by FB?? I believe if you go invisible you don't accumulate points, so they're NOT using that.

If I go invisible, it won’t let me make reports. I’ve wondered this too, as I don’t want random people to see where I am on Waze, except for my reports.

why accumulate points? Early on they had accounts with no email requirements. Since that has changed, I use Waze without an account and can report...

We might be talking about slightly different things; accumulating points gives your reports more weight.
In my observations, LEOs that try to use Waze to their advantage with random accounts and low points are not as able to remove a high-weight report.

I'm currently ranked 84th in my state and 2,038 nationwide.

Honestly don't know. I reported two things on a recent trip home: a car stopped in the road, and a cop. The car report had my name on it. The cop report said "by anonymous". I didn't do anything different between the two reports.

Points? I’m not sure why anyone really cares. I don’t log in, I make reports, I see them show up, whatever else happens happens with it. Of course I also think most social media is a complete waste of time in this too short life.

Is it possible that these are google maps users???

I was using google maps a few days ago and I got a waze like notification for a speed trap and an option to confirm if it was still there.
To me it seemed like google maps is now displaying some waze alerts.

Nice, 2038!!!! I'm 56 in my state but 70,737 nationwide. You must have a crapload of points.

I'll bet you are higher than that! Check your nationwide stats for all time. My nationwide weekly score is 101,XXX if I remember correctly. :) I haven't been driving as much lately.

All,
Regarding the social media aspect of Waze: I don't think there's really much of that to it. It's barely passable as any way to communicate other than the "canned" messages. The scores are interesting in that you can see how much you've used it and then see how much crazier those with higher scores must be. :)

This raises another question: Does using the Waze standalone mobile app vs. Android Auto (or Apple CarPlay) make a difference? I notice that I cannot submit hazard reports while in invisible mode when using the standalone Waze app, but if I am using Android Auto I can make reports even though I never toggled out of invisible mode beforehand. Is that a bug, or does that mean I'm not truly invisible in Android Auto?

My measly 40k points don’t go as far ;)
That is different than my number above. My ranking should be lower to be better. :)
