I've owned and used a radar detector continuously since 1967. My first detector was a model called a Radar Sensor which ran on a battery.
It received X band and some other odd band no longer in use today. Yesterday I received my new R7 so here I am learning about all it's features....

I've a quite a few in between, but I do wish I still have the first one, it would be a real conversation piece...

Funny, I don't remember the name of the Escort, it was the black box with the orange bulb on the unit. So in curious fashion I also bought the copy cat Cobra with the yellow bulb on it on the opposite side of the black box. Aw the memories. LOL.

This is exactly what it looked like, found this picture in the net. It made a constant noise the whole time it was on, but when there was radar the pitch changed and it squealed...

Yep, that was the odd band I didn't remember along with X band.
The unit never distinguished between bands but X band was popular one back then...
