We've been working on a post to kick off this project for maybe 6 to 8 months now. Up until recently I was primarily focused on creating a very detailed technical proposal to the community, something you would see on Kickstarter or similar platforms when a product or service is proposed (but much much more indepth). I've finished maybe 95% of it and have been focusing the past couple of months on getting the infrastructure in place as well as all the legal and financial aspects (including setting up business accounts and legal protections) which a product and service like this has to consider.
We will be posting this thread on the 15th which will document everything mentioned above as well as equipment, licenses, services and software we will need to purchase to start working on this project. Additionally, at the same time, we will be outlining the pricing structure for both the development period as well as when the product / service moves from beta to release. It will be at this time that you guys will be able to start helping us fund the project.
Coming up with a price structure is something we actually spent a lot of time thinking about - how to keep costs down for individuals but raise enough funds to ensure that the project is funded properly. I don't want to go into too many details about this here in this specific post because we're just over a week away from launch and everything will be detailed in there. But there will be a few opportunities available for those who want to help contribute just a little, or more than the standardized pricing scheme allows for. Another important thing was to figure out how to reward people for helping fund the project during the development phase and I believe we came up with a rather good system to accomplish this as well.
Me personally, I'm actually going to be putting in a minimum of 40 hours a week (tracked publicly by a punch in, punch out style system) into this project (aka a real job amount of hours) - figuring out how to report taxes on this work and business assets relating to the project was actually somewhat of a pain in the ass but fortunately with the setup of our LLC specifically for this project, we were given a few hours of time with a LegalZoom lawyer to go over everything and plan out all of this when it comes to the legal and financial aspects. I'll be detailing all of this in the launch thread as well.
But yeah, when I decided that I wanted to officially do this project I figured that it needs to be done properly, from start to finish, in terms of all the Legal, Financial, planning and development aspects of it. It's the least we could do considering we are going to be going to the community to help fund the development of it.
Stay tuned for the final announcement and development launch on the 15th.
