Ok love my V1's so much and with all that is going on at V1 - decided to buy a backup unit.

Found one on Facebook Market with Junk K - (latest) in the box for $325.
Thought why not.

Are my crazy? Maybe should have bought an Escort - but just love my V1's (in all my vehicles).

Still think its crazy 2 months + - out of parts? Still advertising V1 model they can't currently sell in over 15+ Magazines (Pop Science, Road Track, Automobile, Car & Driver, BMW Car Club, Porsche Car Club, etc. etc. etc.)

Something is going on....but I don't want to take a chance not having a V1 at my side with custom sweeps and integration into my apps.
I think if Mike did come out with something new it might turn the industry on its side !! (seriously doubt this will happen though)

Just hope they aren't phasing out and about to go out of business and running out the pre-purchased ads in the magazines out.

Not crazy in concept IMO. I've contemplated the same myself.

You might lose out by buying during a period of demand and then maybe wanting to sell during a period of less demand. But, so what? :)

For accuracies sake, it's been 4 (whoops) 3 months as of the beginning of July. :)

I hate the new math. Did you know that 5x3 <> (5 +5 +5) ? Under the new math. Why Was 5 x 3 = 5 + 5 + 5 Marked Wrong - Math Hacks - Medium
I count it as 3 Months and a week. Breaking it down:
  • April 1st - May 1st: 1 Month
  • May 1st - June 1st: 1 Month
  • June 1st - July 1st: 1 Month
  • July 1st - July 8th: 1 Week
Are my crazy?
Only time will tell if you are crazy like a fox, or just plain crazy. If I needed a unit, I might be tempted. You'd be getting saves - and saving money. But a backup unit? I would have waited.

I don't think it's crazy to get two of something that you really like in case something happens to the first one, as long as you can afford it.

Strange like a fox.

I am only reluctant to buy 2 of the same product because I like a little variety (and I need to pay bills and eat, I guess).

I've had two for a few years now. One for the cars, and one on the bike. I got sick of transferring it between bike and car all the time.
If/when a new V1 comes out, depending on specs I might keep one of the current ones on the bike.

I've had 2 V1's for years. I would run them in two different vehicles until some new feature came out on the V1 that I needed, I would keep the latest one and send the oldest one in for upgrading and wouldn't have to do without while waiting for the new one to arrive.

Now, my oldest one (it has drifted off frequency so it's not in use and gives me opportunities to test other detectors anyway) is waiting to be sent in whenever Mike decides to release his latest iteration.

Doesn't sound strange to me at all!!! :p

Sorry, old unit, old technology, I just cant agree. That's like saying a model "T" can run with a Porsche, no it cant. Yes it has 4 wheels an engine and a body, but its still old and dated. You keep on adding external devices and programs to patch it up to try to keep it quiet and modern but its still old tech. While I'm not an R7 kind of guy, it runs circles around the V1. I just move forward and not backwards with technology related items. Antiques are cool in furniture, but not electronics, not counting McIntosh stereo amps. Just mu HO.

I don't agree with your ideas @ron topa. Many tests show that the V1's from 2017 are not that far behind. There's lots of threads around here where the point is made by myself and others that the apps are not to "patch" the V1, but the apps are the real tech that some are after and it's nice that the V1 will interface with it as well.

If these are indeed your own ideas of the V1s and not repeats of what others have said, I respect your opinion and we can leave it at that. :)

Well,Blue, Ive always had a problem with "branch offs" i.e. Bill Gates from Apples Windows ideas. V1 is an offshoot from ER and I think there's an argument there somewhere. But that's my problem I know. There fact that you say the V1 has apps that are made by techs to integrate with it doesn't change that its old and dated . The looks are -well- and its size is-well- I just am not a fan and am not impressed by the V1 nor its performance for its cost. I understand loyalty as I'm a loyal Escort man. But I to own a new R3. So in effect as I'm holding on to my 360c -I do recognize Ill most likely have to move on as Mfrs develop newer better cheaper RD than my fav. I apologize if I'm being offensive as that's not my purpose, I just feel that I need to agree to disagree in this discussion.

No problem! I don't like "branch off" products either and there could be a long discussion about the history of ER and Valentine and points for both sides.

For accuracy sake, wouldn't we say though that the "Model T's" of detectors are FuzzBusters and the like?
It's the extreme comparisons that can devolve into messy threads.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion though. :)

I'm curious about your comment about the V1's size. Have you ever owned a V1? They're relatively small compared to most RD's:
