OP posted a video in advanced...
Yes, like I said I imagine it’s the video that prompted this thread. I’m curious about the part where Xyd said, “I'm just trying to make sure that the access levels are being utilized how they are supposed to be, in this situation.”

thanks

I think it was fine the way it was posted in advanced, in context.

Not really sure what else there is to say if I can't be given a situation where this topic relates.

But......................................its hosted on youtube. Which makes it less secure than one which is ONLY on an RDF server. We have the fire-breathing dragon to protect us.

People choose to post on youtube - we allow them to post videos here but they choose not to, lol...

If more people wanted to use the RDF media system I'd be more willing to create access-level secured areas inside the RDF media gallery system, but it just doesn't seem like we have a lot of people who prefer using our system for whatever reason over youtube, etc.

Well yeah, but I'd argue that if it's something you REALLY don't want out in public, then don't post it online, period. I'll post videos of myself speeding, like this one, and although it's easy to figure out when and where it occurred, there would be no way for anyone to identify me as the driver. Sure, it's my car, and there's a high probability that I was driving it, but there's no way to even tell it was taken in my car in the video, or even to identify the driver. Even if I were to speak in the video, there's no way to tell whether I'm the passenger and there's a driver who remained silent the entire time. Etc.

Just remember, the internet never forgets. Assume that anything you put online will be copied by everyone who has access to it, and shared with the world through social media, and through some fluke occurrence, will go viral. If you'd be extremely embarrassed by its presence there, then don't post it.

Well no offense, but, I did post a few videos here. Most of them I had backups of, but there was one in particular that sticks in mind that for some reason, I deleted because I figured that RDF had it, and if I ever needed it, I'd be able to re-download it. And then...it was gone, forever. The OFFICIAL idiot drivers thread Had I just posted it on YouTube, I'd still have it today. And I still feel like the chances of YouTube having a system crash and losing my videos forever is much less than it happening with videos posted here because YouTube likely has backups at multiple sites around the world. I'm sure we have backups too, but I doubt it's on the same scale.

I addressed this issue back when we used to use the old php-vibe powered system. This was something that was due to rackspace's CDN system being corrupted and thus not properly backing up our video data - I did not know this was even a possibility so I did not backup our video data at the time across more providers than just rackspace's CDN backup system (which utilizes Akamai, which is generally rather good).

After that happened I vowed to never have data loss again for any RDF-related content and have RDF's data stored (backed up) over three different external service providers as well as here at home on a RAID10 array. If RDF's video data is lost again, then the entire forum's data is going to be lost, because that's how I have it stored across our backup providers now - all together under the same exact backup - it's literally considered no different from any of the other data (posts, etc) on RDF now, directly in response to that whole rackspace issue we had.
